from a video I have seen it looked like you had to go back to the main menu between every match in battle mode. It wasn't an official disk so I was wondering if this really is the case.

I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.

I strive to improve my living conditions by hoarding gold, food, and sometimes keys and potions. I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You?

well I can safetly say that the Rainbow Road is my favorite track

has anyone had this?

Nintendo of Japan reported that a small percentage of disc problems with Mario Kart Wii, the game would freeze or crash while playing, the reason is that the game is on a Dual Layer DVD, a small percentage of Wii console were not able to read these discs probably due to dust or other problems with the laser.
