Forums - Gaming Discussion - VGChartz's Best-Selling Console Games of Gen 8: Updated Weekly!

Weekly update done.

Food for thought: the Wii U has the worst software sales at the moment, but is partially countering that by having its sales concentrated in a few major titles. Mostly ones with Mario somehow involved.

Around the Network

Even if the WiiU struggles, Nintendo software doesn't seem to give up the fight. Amazing ratio.

Titanfall is still undertracked on here. It was over 1 million retail in the US alone for March.

I just use VGChartz numbers.

Wii U in Europe is just sad

Go right ahead. And while we're at it, you're pretty much my favorite user on the site, no contest, if only for the sheer amount of effort you put into so many cool threads. I still haven't forgotten that Best of Zelda one. Your threads are interesting, insightful, and informative. If you ever left the site, I would consider it a great loss.

Notes

  • Worldwide, CoD: Ghosts will be the first 8th gen console game to reach 4 million next week, an honor it will likely hold exclusive rights to for a while. NSMBU is not selling as quickly as it used to, and Battlefield 4 is still months away assuming steady sales.
  • Besides Call of Duty, the big sellers at this point are FIFA, Titanfall, and Infamous. Titanfall should pull ahead of Killzone in less than three weeks, while Infamous will zoom past Madden 25 and Wii Party U. FIFA will outsell Nintendo Land, but not for a little while.
  • Beneath the Top 20, Ground Zeroes is looking likely to eventually overtake Wind Waker HD, with about 0.8 million sales as of April 19. No other games look likely to break into the Top 20.
  • In North America, the main moving game in the Top 10 is Titanfall, which will likely overtake NBA 2K14 next week. Note how Super Mario 3D World is not selling particularly well, even compared to the 2D Mario and Luigi games.
  • Both Forza 5 and Dead Rising could overtake Luigi U and 3D World in America, but none of these are selling that well. We'll likely have to wait for the tirinity of Wolfenstein, Watch Dogs, and Mario Kart to mix things up here.
  • Europe is a bit dull, even by the current standards. Only FIFA is doing particularly well, though Titanfall may steal Forza's spot over the next month.
  • Conslusions: Unless Spider-Man or MLB 14, multi-gen games, push big numbers, I don't have much to do here for the next month.Wolfenstein will leave a mark, and Watch Dogs and Mario Kart will leave even bigger ones, but the entire 8th gen is moving slowly at the moment.
  • Other: Considering the success of the Marvel LEGO game, the failures of the Movie and Hobbit iterations in the series is interesting.

I would be much more interested in top 30 worldwide. I am a bit curious about Japan, but you're right, it's not that interesting yet. It's pretty much just Knack and Wii U games, right? In fact, let me look it up...here's the top 30:

Huh, yeah...the top 10 is Knack and Wii U games...but hey, Square Enix and Namco Bandai squeezed on there for publishers. Yakuza could end up on there, as could MGS: Ground Zero, but so could Wii Fit U...in fact of those three, Wii Fit U is the most likely to outleg NSLU, though really none of them will. Nothing will change in the top ten for Japan until Mario Kart.
