I really don't like handheld gaming at all, the controllers are always inferior to home consoles and I think it just feels uncomfortable. The screens are very small and the resolution/graphics are always lagging generations behind. For me playing on a 3DS, DS, PSP or Vita is just a slightly better experience than smartphones. And I would perhaps even go as far to say that smartphone + an accessory like iPega or something is better than any handheld console. Speaking of comfort.

If a handheld were as big as a normal controller it would feel much better to play on it, but then it would be too big to carry around.

The only handheld system that I have ever bought was a PSP, because of boredom at work.

My vote, to no surprise, went with home consoles.

Home console.

If I commuted on a bus or train or something I would probably like handhelds more, but can't play handhelds while driving myself :(. /must have self driving car!

Home consoles. I guess because I started at gaming with them (PS1 and SNES specifically).

Ironically that's a good reason to prefer handhelds... Vita can play almost every decent PSOne game, only now on the move, with an easy app-freeze that allows you to stop and come back to games, and they're all upscaled; meanwhile many decent SNES games can be played on either GBA or DS, (so a DS Lite is perfect), or if you don't mind a less straightforward method, a modded PSP plays them extremely well. Even in the house Wii U has a virtual console filled with SNES games for a semi-portable SNES experience. A while back I realised that a Vita, GBA-SP and 3DS covers almost every game I can concievably want to play on the move and if you get a small 7-10" laptop you can even play classic PC games on the move. I may never stay still again.

I loved SNES & PS1 in their day too, but that's not what I buy a system for today.

I had a PSP & DS, and sadly almost never played them - so this gen I didn't buy either Vita or 3DS yet, though... Bravely Default is calling me.

Home consoles named PlayStation are my preferred gaming platform.

Handhelds are great, I love the Vita, PSP, and GBA, and GBC. But, as great of a device as the Vita is I just can't justify having it with me when I am out and about. Sony or Nintendo really need to bring out a portable that is mobile communication capable. If this were to happen I would have the device with me at all times, and on the one or two times a week I have an hour or so away from the house I could find a bigger place in my heart for mobile gaming.

i prefer home consoles but this new gen has been a let down compared to the handhelds. Which is annoying as I like playing on a tv.

I prefer whatever has good games.

Home consoles, because they have more games with blood and explosions.
