Most of us grew up with that huge gap in Mario titles from the mid 90s to mid 00s so that's why it's surprising to us when we see a new 2D/3D Mario title every year.

So no main series Mario in 1987, 1991, 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008.
