There are some anime and manga that are very deep in a psychological way. Monster and 20th Century Boys are (imo) better than many things Hollywood has come up with, but recently, anime has basically become a place for purely fan service. Very rarely I see an anime with a deep and emotional story. Or if they aren't fan service, is extreme gore without any real purpose....I miss the good old days of anime and manga.
