I disagree. The days of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin wanting to obtain land to build a great empire are over. In reality, I think a new Soviet Union is the last thing Putin wants. The Soviet Union was a difficult country to govern. Too much land mass, too many cultural differences amongst the republics, language differences, religious differences. The list goes on and on. Russia alone has all of these problems. By invading and annexing other countries, Russia would not only inherit any potential assets, but would also inherit that country's domestic problems. Why would Putin want that when Russia has enough of it's own domestic issues?

Again, what Putin wants is political influence. He wants to be surrounded by pro-Russian countries that'll give Russia a political and economical upper hand on the world stage. That's how it's done in the 21st century. You don't invade the other country. You just invade their politics. 

Doing what the Power puff girls (Britain, france, USA and Israel) have been doing for quite some time, looking after national interest. Funny how the US talks about international laws when it suits them and the rest of the time the power puff girls ignore any rule and even make up stuff (Iraq chemical weapons) to destroy and loot countries. The crimea belongs to Russia and the power puff girls need to mind their own business.

Russia just can't afford to lose their naval base in Crimea, let alone have potential NATO bases at its doors. They will try to keep Crimea de facto under their control saying that the territory is historically tied to Russia.

yes because the Iraq war has been soooo profitable for the US.  Also I don't remember it helping our govt's popularity (we voted out Republicans in large part because we grew tired of the Iraq war)

You accomplished what you set out to do and that is divide the country into three regions which pose no threat to american and israeli interest in the middle east. Lastly, it was a profitable campaign but the profits are for the bankers, haliburton (who has contracts to rebuild), oil sector and big business. It was because of the dumbed down american public that the war took place, they mixed the 9/11 attack with Sadam being related to it and you sheep ate that up like doritos chips.
