Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Is Creative...

No, not really. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but they essentially keep the same franchises and hardly expand with any new IPs at all (which take the most creativity). Nintendo has not created any creative software with substantial impact in the past 10 years.

No one but Nintendo has made anything creative in years in my opinion. Not sure what our opinions really count for here.

The only one that really bugs me is slapping "New" onto a title. Yoshi's New Island, in being the first game of a different series to use the word, took it to new levels of stupid.

It's what all the newbies are used to.

But yet their software sold the most last gen. No exclusive of MS and Sony could even get a third of the sales Mario Kart 7 and Wii Sports got. They had many high rated games from the critics. So perhaps continuing to make the same games that people like is better than trying something totally new.

Nintendo does titles like that for the purpose of brand recognition. Lots of other companies do it too. Not every title needs a subtitle. Take Final Fantasy for example. Does anyone really care that they just use a series of Roman numerals for the titles even though each title has nothing to do with any of the other ones? When they actually do make a sequel to one of the games, they just put the Roman numeral with a 2 after it. Nintendo does fine with a lot of their titles. Like Fire Emblem, Star Fox, Zelda, Kirby, Kid Icarus, etc. It's really just the Mario games that are anything like what the OP is accusing, but even they have some creativity. Take Mario Kart 8 for example. It's not just the number 8 after Mario Kart, it's a mobius strip, representing infinity.

This thread is idiotic... The only thing uncreative about Nintendo's franchises is that they use the same mascot characters in all of them. Beyond that, you won't find a more diverse and creative games which evolve and reinvent a series with every iteration.

So what if half of them take the mario name. The fact that mario was attached to a games name means that instead of a pathetic 4 million sales that something like "the Last of Us" achieved, it would get 10 million.

The only thing I don't like about Nintendo is that they don't buy up more development studios and that they don't branch out into more genres. I would love to see Nintendo make an MMO game.

Nintendo is quite creative.

None of their games are rehashes as far as I'm concerned. They always feel new somehow.

I said the names of their games aren't creative.
