Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition on PS4 is 1080p/30fps

February 28, 2014 Written by Jason Dunning

Following its PS4 announcement yesterday (and inclusion in the North American/European Instant Game Collections), some new information about Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition has been revealed, including that Housemarque didn’t handle the PS4 port, but rather Sony XDev Europe and Climax Studios. What this news means is that the other PS4 project Housemarque was working on (Resogun was the first) is still unannounced.

Getting back to Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, Housemarque confirmed that it would run at 1080p/30fps, as they described on Twitter:

“The original game was coded with 30fps in mind and it would have been near impossible to get 60fps for this reason.”

“[1080p/30fps], simply because the original was designed for 30fps. Making it 60fps would have required almost a complete code overhaul.”

“The original engine wasn’t built for 60.”

Moving to trophies, it’s been confirmed there will be a Platinum in the Apocalypse Edition, and the PS4 version will have a separate trophy list than the PS3 version of Dead Nation. Also being separate from the PS3 version is the leaderboards.

Finally, the Vita version of Dead Nation is being handled by Climax Studios and we should expect news soon.

Wait what? So they're saying the engine is shit?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

What ?...lol

Who are Climax studios?

Anyway, I got the first game for free after the PSN outage, but never played it. I may give this a chance since I get it for free again and I did really like Super Stardust and Resogun. Though I am more interested in what that second game is now I know it's not this

As for the 30fps, I guess I would rather 60fps, but if I'm getting it free I'm not complaining. A bit lazy on their part especially as with a twin stick shooter like this, you'd think that they'd have been targeting 60fps on the PS3 to begin with

But if it wasn't a problem then, it should be fine now. Especially if it's free for PS+!

What a load of horseshit.. I am sure the PS4 could run it at 1440fps/120fps..

Guys who still owe us TES Oblivion for the PSP :-/

Yeah read it yesterday, shame cause a twin stick shooter would usually benefit from 60fps, but on the other hand I heard that DN is not fast paced and perfectly fine in 30fps.

And the "complete code overhaul" comment just shows that the game is just a quick port, otherwise they exactly should overhaul the code to optimise it for the PS4 hardware and rework the engine.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Least its 1080p...
