Honestly, it sold a lot more than I thought it would. Thought it would sell less than 100k. Pretty decent in my opinion. Gonna pick up the game in a few weeks :)

Not "excuses," hardly. Most were quite rational justifications for shit that the third parties did ahead of time to largely make sure that nobody had any good reason to pick up the Wii U version. This point has never been addressed (or has been addressed and people keep refusing to acknowledge it, or come up with their own, yet more tortuous counter-excuses). Your Shape i'll give you because i had never really heard of it. The others i mostly have heard of, and so understand the conditions surrounding their release, including the BS conditions 3rd parties tacked on.

The EA games should NOT be a part of this conversation, period, lest we all say things that we're going to regret in the name of defending the Worst Company in America.

Id call them all excuses, because the reasons why they may or may not have sold like they did doesnt matter. EA games have as much right to be in this conversation as any other games. What matters is that they were actual releases on Wii U, which is what the conversation was about. Look

They had to be thinking third party was going to pick up the slack.

You were talking about releases. It doesnt matter if they were slightly gimped releases, late ports or anything else (just like the PS4 and One are getting).

The releases were there (even from EA), it was just that the Wii U userbase didnt pick them up in reasonable numbers. Like I said earlier, the release schedule for Wii U was similar to, if not better than the early release schedules for PS4 and Xbox One.

It might not have been the greatest of efforts, but 3rd parties actually tried. To pin the brunt of the blame on them, when Nintendo should shoulder just as much of it (if not more) is just refusing to see the incompetance shown by Nintendo. As the platform is Nintendo's own, they should have known about what support was/wasnt going to be there and gone all out to make sure they had something, anything set to release at those dates when 3rd parties couldnt release. That includes paying developers to port games to Wii U.

This should be a big lesson to them when they release the next console.

That's partly why i feel EA especially should be removed from this conversation. They had a commitment for a higher level of support, then backstabbed Nintendo in the most spectacular way, leaving them holding the bag. I would think EA's commitment would have been pretty reliable in early-stage planning for releases, wouldn't you have?

Nintendo paying for a port would have some advantages (guarantee no gimps), since it reflects the very inferior bargaining position they now have with just about everyone, except companies in greater financial straits like Sega or Capcom. It would just have to be applied judiciously still, as there's no sense in paying for a late port and it's sometimes hard to feel out whether it would be worth paying for game X or game Y (for a game that was just bad across the board, Sony and Microsoft at least got it for free but Nintendo had to pay for it).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

How is DKCTF not selling? In two weeks is already 240K and it needs about 700K to be profitable and we don't have numbers for digital purchases.

Japan, first week, 2 days: 35K(one week before European and USA launch)
USA, first week 2 days, 108k
Europe, first week, 2 days; 50k
Total; 193K

Because people are tired of colorful platformers on WiiU?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Yes. Sorry, harsh but truth: People is ignoring Retro's latest offer on the Wii U, just like they decided to choose over other options with a lot more potential.

Is DonkeyKong's fault? No, it's Nintendo's fault to believe it will sell hardware when Returns proved that it sold on a established userbase. It's Nintendo's fault to greenlite a game that doesn't looks like a new complete generation when other consoles is offering that. It's Nintendo's fault to release the same games as the Wii.

People wanted new games, new experiences and Nintendo is just releasing the same content as the Wii with higer resolution. Wii Party, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, DKC Returns, New Super Mario Bros Wii have already sequels on the Wii U, and guess what, everything has bombed compared to their predecessors.

Every time I see my Wii U I imagine all those games Nintendo could have developed with outstandings graphics, effects, and new gameplay. Then, I got depressed looking at what we are getting.

It's not DK's fault, it's Nintendo's.

It's the middle of February..... you can't expect earth shattering results.  Beside Donkey Kong CTF is another platformer it wasn't really going to move many consoles. Wait till Mario Kart 8 it bombs then you'd make a valid comment. 200K+ for first two week is great result for this game and Retro.

I love nintendo games, hate nintendo company.
Steps for the company to make a comeback:
1) Kill WiiU already, admit it was a mistake.
2) Release a new console with great performance, like xbone or ps4, with great online support and a good price point. No gimmiks!
3) Bring back 3rd parties, release CODs and GTAs and other blockbuster games with same or better performance as xbone and ps4
4) Stop making games for childrem. Mario/Kirby are ok, but make Zelda/Metroid/Starfox/Donkey Kong/F-Zero more mature, more realistic. Nor real real like COD realistic, but more mature. Kids nowadays above 12 want realistic games. Imagine a more Starfox or Metroid game. Would be awesome.
5) Make them 3D. No more 2D plataformes. You have 3DS for it. DK Tropical Freeze should have been 3D.
6) Need to plan better its releases. WiiU should have been released with Mario 3D World. We still have no news on starfox or Metroid. Release one of those great nintendo games per semester.
7) Develop new franchises but do not forget the old ones. Make its franchises stronger, not weaker, as it did with metroid and starfox

Nintendo has two choices going forward. Either they can find new water again like the DS and Wii, and give the world something fresh, different and new, or they can buckle down and release hardware on par with the other two with the same features and business strategy so they can get all third party support (the only reason they're failing). Either of those two things would reverse their current position in the market place imo.

Whatever the case may be, I'm confident they will figure it out.

Fun fact - EA released more games for Wii U in the first 6 Month than Nintendo did. I think EA were classed as reliable in the early Wii U days. Only Ubisoft had more games on Wii U than EA at the time of Most Wanted, as far as I can remember.

FIFA 13
Madden 13
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Mass Effect 3

They sold a combined 450,000 units.

Compared to what they put on PS4...

FIFA 14
Battlefield 4
Need for Speed Rivals
Madden 25
NBA Live 14

Madden 25 alone has sold over 560,000 units with NBA Live being the only EA bomb on PS4.

This is why EA continues to support PS4 and why EA no longer supports Wii U. This is why they continues Wii development with the likes of FIFA, despite dropping Wii U development. Theyre going where the sales are. This is why so many devs are putting games on mobile, because its where the sales (profits) are. They run a business and the aim is to make money. If theyre bleeding money on Wii U development, then they will stall Wii U development. When you add in that the machine is underpowered and developers are shifting funds to new PS4/ Xbox One engines, support will continue to dwindle.

You are one of my new best friends. Everything in this post is, perfect. And I also agrre with prayformojo. Even Pokoko has reached to the goal point. Bad timing for the game, and all of this is Nintendo's fault.
