Forums - Sales - Wii U games showing good legs

We aren't comparing AC4 wii u vs other versions. the discussion is about the legs it's getting vs what it did last year.

I put the other versions up as a comparison really to show why these numbers would be meaningless for Ubisoft, showing why they dont really need to delay the other versions to be in line with the Wii U version of Watch_Dogs. It was in essence a reply to this part of the OP -

It really shows ubisoft is making a mistake with watch dogs delay on wii u, since it already has more preorders in US than AC4 US launch for wii u.

I just dont think the numbers are impressive at all. Doubt anyone at Ubisoft cares much too.

Furthermore I dont think the game is delayed on Wii U, its just releasing earlier on other platforms. I dont think they wanted to delay the already finished versions to appease the few who would buy it on Wii U. Needs of the many and all that.

 Your thoughts on the subject?

Just take a break from gaming websites and gaming in general for a while. The worse the WiiU does, the stronger your delusions and obsession becomes. There's nothing wrong with enjoying and rooting for the WiiU, but it's obviously affecting your mental state.

We all love you, and we'll still be here for you when you come back. Just focus on getting better.

NPD and Mediacreate. I know it was bundled in Europe but sales there are so low I can't really figure out what it sold.

But going by Ubisofts comments I can't believe this did anything spectacular, especially not anywhere near 800k. These type of titles drop off a cliff they don't sustain legs.

I was hoping for a press release or something because I don't see how VGC numbers could be 240k off.

Really? We're overtracking 360 by 2m+ in the US (and have had LTD's there for a couple years now) trust me it's not that difficult for VGC to be that off.

I know you put little faith in VGC's numbers but I was wondering if your number was your own estimation or based on something solid.

It may sound like guesswork, but it's hard to imagine Ubisoft being so dissapointed in ZombieU's sales if the title had managed to sell 640K units already.

Believe me, Ubisoft would lose alot of sales if they released later. Watchdogs has lost way too much steam already because of its delay, if it'd release in the holiday period now it wouldn't stand a chance against the big hitters like Destiny or Cod or whatever else is coming this holiday season. So releasing it during the summer, where there are hardly any releases, is their best bet to get the most out of the PS and Xbox versions, if they have to put the Wii U version on hold to get the other versions out by then, then that is the best thing they can do.

this is a single version we are talking about. when the other versions get ready, it shouldn't take more than two weeks to finish the wii u one. and they lost a lot of rayman sales on wii u with a similar behaviour.

That's an assumption, we have no idea how long the porting of the Wii U version is going to take. What I'm saying is that Ubisoft sacrificed the release on the Wii U to get the other versions out before the holidays, because they felt that the Wii U port was the one version where they had the least to lose from another delay, that is what I believe at least. I don't care what they did with Rayman, I'm just giving a reason as to why I think Ubisoft delayed Watchdogs on Wii U and why I think that delay is justified from a business perspective.

Failing to agree that Ubisoft are being dense for delaying Watchdogs Wii U: immensely ridiculous.

Bringing up the enormous chasm between sales of multiplatform games on Wii U and other platforms to illustrate why decisions like the above are being made: irrelevant, we're obviously not comparing platforms here.

Why are you even on a sales site, zero999?

As for ZombiU; the only official statement I've heard on that is that Ubisoft has said it wasn't profitable. Here you go:
http://www.destructoid.com/zombiu-257720.phtml

"Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed ZombiU made no money, the Wii U launch title failing to become "even close" to profitable."

Straight from the horse's mouth. This is by far Ubi's most successful game on Wii U, and people are still making noise about their decision to delay and possibly cancel the Wii U version of Watchdogs. I mean; come on. Watchdogs likely has an even bigger budget than ZombiU, per platform at that, there is zero(lol) business sense in making it at all at this point.

Considering a substantial amount of copies were sold for $14.99, it's quite beleivable ZombiU reached 640K but did not create a large enough profit margin for Ubi to be happy with.

" Rebellion Against Tyrants Is Obedience To God"

The bargain bin prices probably help out the TW101 and ACIV. TW101 will continue to be a cult hit for the WiiU's lifetime. ACIV sales will taper off soon enough, but not before surpassing AC3 on WiiU's sales.

Rayman recently had a price cut cut too. It's regularly promoted through the eShop. Wouldn't be surprised if eventually Nintendo shells out extra money to have the game bundled.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Sales of these games need to be about 3x bigger to guarantee future 3rd party support.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I said it before, ill say it again, outside the major titles nintendo decides to release numbers for, we have no official numbers for any Wii U title (from 3rd parties especially and specific Nintendo published Wii U games)

Ubisoft--no ship numbers
EA--no ship numbers
Activision--no ship numbers
Warner Brothers--no ship numbers
505 games--no ship numbers
Bandi Namco--no ship numbers
Sega--usually combined with the 3DS counterparts
Capcom--same as above

We, of course, have numbers from VGC, have unofficial sales of games from creamsugar from neogaf (for US) and end year sales for most European and Japanese trackers (most show little to no Wii U games)...so with no base to start from its hard to say if these legs are good or not, to me additional shipments are most likely at a standstill for Wii u titles.

The only thing that remains constant is that Wii U sales of multiplatform games tend to be ~1% of sales very few exceptions (games geared towards the Wii crowd)

The cost to port AC and Watch Dogs probably isn't nearly as costly as developing ZombieU was. A couple guys and a few weeks could get the 360 versions on WiiU running decently. There are sunk costs of development that would occur with or without the WiiU version. The issue with Watch Dogs is that they need those dev hours right now to be committed to what are going to be the best selling versions.
