As a person whp believes in free market as well in freedom to serve whoever you want, I fully support this bill. It stops the manipulative fascist LGBT lobby from suing and closing down small businesses.

The balance of freedoms between customer and business are simple.  You can deny based on behavior and dress, and obviously ability to pay. You cannot deny based on things people have no control over, such as what they are.

I would ask if you have ever been denied business on the basis of something you are?  How concerned are you that you would be victim to such practices if allowed by the law?

As a South Carolinian this was probably a familiar sight to my parent's generation.

Now here's a modern day bigot's vision of the future:

Takei is absolutely right to compare this "Straights Only" law to Jim Crow. They're effectively identical. Businesses open to the public should never be allowed to discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Jan Brewer and the rest of AZ's social conservatives that support this legislation are throwbacks to a darker time in American society.

Please let me know when gay people stop going to Chick-fila and when chick-fila stops people from eating there.

Please do tell me about this Manipulative Fascist LGBT Loby!

He's already said he would support a bill that allowed denial to service to African Americans, that should tell us all we need to know about what kind of person he is.

You are right. I was just hopping for some more fun tin foil rambelings.

It would be fun to see him drive through Arizona - only to be denyed gasoline cause 'we don't serve puffs here' and have him lost in the desert.  Wonder how long it would be before he said, "This is NOT what I meant when I wanted to deny people rights!  It's only OTHER people, not meeeeeeeee!"

Why can't LGBT accept that some people simply will disagree with them no matter what? Not everyone will think LGBT is right for whatever reasons ranging from psychological reasons to scientific and religious. You can't get angry and call someone a bigot for not accepting or adhering to the lifestyle.

LGBT is about acceptance and being open minded yet when someone doesn't view things the same, they are labeled as bigots or their religion is attacked. Isn't that the definition of hypocrisy and completely against the core of LGBT?

Of course I won't state my opinion on LGBT because it doesn't matter in the point in proving.

There's a pretty clear line between disagreeing and discrimination though, and a lot of people (not you) around the globe make it seem like these people will come into restaurants and other places and have orgies and corrupt all of society when all they want is a burger/taxi-ride/hotel room. They don't want you to give them a hug and feel great about them; they want to be able to go grab a burger when they're hungry "despite" being attratced to the same sex.

What would happen if someone tried to pass a bill that allowed people to refuse service to christians, jews or muslims? If it was about religious freedom; one could easily argue, on the same grounds that this bill is, that christians should have the right to refuse muslims, muslims should be allowed to refuse jews and so on. If the above examples are deemed problematic; this is indeed large scale bigotry happening here (again; not from you), especially as religion is something you most assuredly choose as a lifestyle/direction.

Well, it sounds like the governor is going to veto the bill. Of course, even she did sign it into law, the courts would have immediately put a stop to it. I just dont understand what goes through the heads of some of these politicians. State level polticians are crazy!

I said I would be OK with a bill that allowed denial to service anyone because of anything as long as its private buisness. But I guess that part didnt fit your tunnel vision so you left it out

You just confirmed what I said. You would be okay with businesses being able to turn away blacks for being black.

Of course the bill is bullshit but storeowners do have to right to refuse order to anyone for whatever their reason is. It is their business. If they don't like gays in their store/restraunt they do have the right to refuse service. That's part of the United States. Jews can be refused service as can Christians as can 5 year olds as can anyone if the store owner does not want to do business with someone for whatever reason.

You may think it's wrong but that's the way it is due to the people's beliefs. and that is something that can't be taken away from them.

Edit: and I say this all because I see LGBT supporters and anit-LBGT supporters attacking each other and insulting one another due to these differences instead of just accepting that they don't agree. Everything from religion to upbringings to races are being attacked with some even being banned. Why discuss or bring the topic if people who disagree are going to be banned or people agree will be banned? That is the ultimate hypocrisy.

Actually it's not that simple.  This was shown during the 60's when people refused to serve people of colour in restaurants.  If you engage in public service, you can refused service on a individual, but you can not refuse a group of people because of prejudice.

What this law does is change that.  So what would be illegal - say to refuse to service people with blue eyes - would now be legal if you have a religious reason - no matter how feeble.  So if you follow the Bible women having their monthly cycles could be consider unclean and throw out of your business if you want.

But as others have pointed out, it's really hiding behind one's religion to discriminate, as it wouldn't be clearly illegal without the law.

And what’s happening is some uses prejudices are being exposed.  They are not being respectful and they are getting themselves in trouble.

Meh, we'll have universal gay marriage eventually. Counter-trend events happen as well, and I cant see this bill being constitutional, will get thrown out
