I will try online multiplayer in a game just to see if it is worth it. However, I'm a single player or local multiplayer type of gamer.

I used to be a huge advocate of not having multi-player in single player suited games. Some single player games are just that. Single player. I once heard a developer say " The reason that our game is so good is that we have only the single player experience to deliver to the consumer, as we have 1 focus, we hone in on that and we deliver "
This was perfect for me. But with the release of Uncharted 2, it all changed.
I was afraid, yes AFRAID. Here we have one of my favorite franchises, adding Multi-Player to an almost perfect Single-Player game. I was mad, pissed, scared, all up until I played the game.
Naughty Dog struck the perfect balance between the 2.
I know all developers will not succeed, but with development costs of big budget games, developers are banking on extending their games lifespan. This is also the perfect opportunity for them the flood the game with future DLC, for even more profits.
All games don't need it, but if it can be done without sacrificing the single player experience, its all good with me.

TLOU, Uncharted, MGS, and assassin's creed had modes and theirs single players weren't at all compromised. I think there's a problem where people immediately assume a game will be worse if it has multiplayer. It's just annoying. If you like single player only, dont be a dick about people that like multiplayer only. Can we just both enjoy it? |
I didn't say SP immediately becomes bad if MP gets added. I just said SP will get less resources and if the developers can work around that, good. Maybe SP will be great but people are quick to wonder if it could have been even better without MP and I think it's quite understandable. I agree with you: People should just enjoy whatever they enjoy and let others enjoy what they want but at the same time, I think there's nothing wrong with people expressing their happiness when it turns out that a game they were looking out for doesn't get SP/MP. It's not being a dick.

No, it is being a dick because some people are on an anti-mp crusade. And the other problem with this mentallity it's been many times that a game doesn't lose quality when multiplayer is added. The only game I can think of is Bioshock 2, and I think that might be more because ken levine wasn't involved with it than anything.
I couldn't give a rats arse if a SP game has MP in it. And sometimes the MP aspect is a pain in the arse. Like with ME3. It forced me to play several hours of MP in order to get the platinum trophy. Fortunately it was a tolerable and somewhat fun MP format. But as soon as I'd played it enough to get my platinum trophy I stopped playing and have had no desire to go back. I only played enough MP of Uncharted 2 and 3 to get the platinum too, which was one match of MP and one match of Co-op.
I could potentially see myself getting into MMORPGs, but I don't want to pay monthly subs just for one game. I also enjoyed playing Smite so not all MP is worthless to me. However for me gaming is all about the SP / co-op experience.

I don't think it's usually an anti-MP crusade when people express their happiness about a dev's decision to omit MP in favor of SP. I've generally perceived it as happiness for the focus on SP instead of tacking on a MP mode just for the sake of having MP for whatever reasons, and I don't see there anything wrong with that. I don't think it's that much different from being unhappy about unnecessary/useless features being added to consoles. Sometimes it's unnecessary, sometimes not, as some features only cost to develop while some features also cost to implement.
I don't care much for tacked on multiplayer but unless a single player game lasts for a long time I don't see the point of buying it. If the game has no coop no multi then it has to entertain me for over 20hours or it should be sold cheaper because it'll be a rental. Games like Mass Effect/Elder Scrolls/Fallout/The Witcher I don't care whether they don't have a multiplayer option. but games that last between 6-12hours better have a coop or something else.

You just keep saying the same thing, and never adress any of my counter-arguments. I'm assuming all you can say at this point is tacked on multiplayer. Can you give me an example of a game that turned crappy because of multiplayer being added?

Can you read? Did you ever read it when I said people might simply not like the competitive aspect of MP that's present even in many co-op MP games. And if you want more reasons, I imagine some people simply don't enjoy interacting with others in games, for whatever reasons (for example, because people always find ways to make stuff annoying). Maybe to some people MP modes don't offer a deep enough experience. Lag is an issue in MP, and MP can be more glitcy than SP quite easily. I provided you with arguments even before, now I provided you with a ton more. No saying I didn't give you arguments.
And once more, can you read? I didn't say games become bad when multiplayer gets added. I just specifically clarified that part which you obviously got wrong once already and I'm not going to do it again if you can't bother to read anyway.
I've provided you with arguments that explain why people might not like MP - at all, even. I've also provided you with a reason why people might be happy when a game doesn't get MP, explaining why it's not just being a dick. For all I know, there's no telling how much better a SP mode could have been if all the resources had been focused on it instead of giving some of them to MP.

I'm asking you for an example where the single player turned crappy when they introduced Multiplayer. You clearly can't read because that's what I've been asking for probably the past three replies. And none of your arguments point out why the two can't co-exist. If you don't want to play MP, great, I really don't care. But I don't see why people have to be dicks about it. While playing uncharted 2, did the knowledge that multiplayer exists make the game any less amazing to you?
And yes, you've provided why people might express happiness. Is there a possibility that those concerns could be valid? yes. But they aren't because there is nothing suggesting that those concerns are legitamate. I could be concerned that the Russian government is spying on me right now, but I have no reason to believe that's true.
