At least you seem to have faced the facts, which is good news I guess. I agree that the traditional model is going out of fashion, in several senses of the word.

The average consumer isn't checking historical console sales data. They are going to see that the PS4 is outselling it's two main rivals by a large margin. Out of the current crop of consoles the PS4 is possibly the only one that doesn't need to worry about it's image.

Actually it does need to worry about it's image ... Just because your at the top spot doesn't mean your out of the rat race just yet ...

But the PS4 isn't doing bad, It had a better first January than the 360 or PS3 and is on track to beat them both in February.

First January

PS3: 380,096

PS4: 696,505

XOne: 301,214

February

X360: 330,928

PS3: 240,586

PS4: 282,793 (as of 2/15)

XOne: 101,702 (as of 2/15)

Can we stop with the baseless doom and gloom now?

Did it have a better first january than WII ?

Its amazing that even after GTA and PS4 launch some people are still saying this crap.

 

If by 'this model' you mean including an expensive gimmick into the package in a desperate attemp to draw in casuals while at the same time you disregard and degrade stuff that is actually important to the customers, then yea, this model most certanly doesnt work.

It's really only MS and Nintendo that are falling behind, PS4 looks like it might be the best selling gaming system of all times

So they can be attributed to unsustainable growth that only they made money out of, is that a good thing for the industry as a whole? That just shows a lack of foresight. They helped create a bubble and ironically ended up doing more or less the opposite of what some said they would do ("save" the industry) and that's not something to brag about.

Besides; Sony expaned the home console market a lot more with their PS1 and PS2, yet you would likely never give much credit for that. If anything, they're the ones who created a home console biotope that was actually viable since 1995 (but no longer is to the same extent).

Edit; it's also quite telling that you have turned from "Wii U and Nintendo will rule the world" to "Entire industry is doomed" in the span of about 6-7 months.

You know what? you are totally right and im wrong!!! How could i´ve been so blind. The gaming industry is healthy. We can play one GTA every 3 years and meanwhile some indie games in the best selling console of all time.

Nope and it was never going to. So using your logic a console is either the fastest selling console of all time or selling badly? No middle ground?
