GDC poll shows that western 3rd party are not interested in Nintendo consoles. And hardware sales matter nothing. Just look on the 3ds vs Vita.

7th gen already proved that hardware sales mean nothing.

There are going all Mobile to make money with shitty F2P games and rip-off gamers with microtransactions!!! I think who can blame them, there are alot of stupid people in this world who pays for those games!!!

Every year people make a big deal of this without bothering with context. Considering the developers being polled, these results are pretty much as expected.

That's kind of shocking, it really shows how biased they are to Nintendo. Why is that?
Also, i shouldn't be surprised about the smartphone share but damn!

Because since the N64 Nintendo has always done something with their hardware that turns off third parties. First it was format issues then it was system specs. It's almost like Nintendo now thinks that their hardware exists first and foremost to facilitate the development of their own games, not as something that everyone would want to develop on. The Wii U, like the Wii before it, is simply not powerful enough in the eyes of third parties. That the Wii U is also selling terribly doesn't help, though then again the Wii sold incredibly well but that didn't encourage any third parties to develop for it simply because it was inadequate for their needs.

The Wii actually got good support but mostly from Japanese developers. They are many hidden gems on that machine. It's similar on Wii U to be honest, but with a little more western support at first. It's mostly western developers that shun Nintendo

You know, Russian tsar Alexandr III once said: "Russia have only two allies: its army and its navy fleet".
The same can be said about Nintendo: "Nintendo is well supported by 2 groups of game developers: its 1st party and its 2nd party."

That's an interesting comparision.

Sega seems to be one of few 3rd party publishers that properly supports Nintendo anymore

Stockholm syndrome.

The percentage doesn't matter because there are many small teams with 5 people or less.

The support of one big publisher like EA already makes a big difference.

I'm not surprised that the 3DS number is so bad because it doesn't have many Western games besides the crap ports of LEGO games.

Well the N64 specs were practically made purely for Mario 64. It led to hardware which was great at running large (for the time) open 3D worlds, but not very adaptable to other genres meaning the PS1 and Saturn often looked like more technically accomplished machines.

The Nintendo conspiracy continues........ This isn't really shocking.
The biggest surprise is that Vita out polled the 3DS! WTF?

Why so much interest in Vita?

Because GDC is full of indie developers, hence also the popularity of non-dedicated gaming hardware. The Vita is getting a lot of indie games and the reason why it ranks even higher than the PS3 (which is PSN too) is probably that quite a few of those indie games in development are ports of titles that were already released on PS3.

Could also be that there are quite a few PS4/PSV indie titles being developed which would also push the Vita tally ahead for platforms you intend to release your next game on.

Vita development does make more sense than 3DS development to smaller companies for multi format releases though as the hardware is more in line with home systems meaning less extra resources are needed to complete the port.
