Forums - Gaming - Kitase on FFVII Remake:"You must believe me when I say it would take a lot to happen"

I just simply dont believe that, Its a game that has already previously been created, all thats left to do is copy it and remake it with current tech. all the story level design, characters everything is already there for them. It just doesnt make sense his comments

I don't think it's that simple. If it was that simple, then every popular game would get remade. Most of the remakes are 2d platformers,so I seriously find some truth to what he's saying.

If youre going to sit there and try to convince me of how hard it is to do, youre wasting your breath, ive spent long enough in japanese development studios, and enough time in the square enix hq (and prior to the merger, the square hq) to know and appreciate that their development archives are expansive enough to take a very large chunk of development time and cost out of producing a remake.

Yeah, ok sure.  That's totally believable.

Clearly they're sitting on a gold mine and deciding to not do anything about it...   because.

I'd say your either lying or have a poor understanding of what you saw/think you saw.

Also, 3D with 2D Backgrounds?  That wouldn't fly today, come on.  It'd look silly.

Depends how they approach it, if done right it could be more beneficial than simply just rebuilding in 3D.

Whether you believe it or not does not make a difference to the fact of its existance, they do not scrap designs that dont make it in to games because they are re-used further down the line, ever since they started work on Spirits within and the white engine they have been stockpiling character models and concept designs, these are frequently reused and re-tooled for future games and movies rather than starting from scratch, as you may notice many of the faces in more recent games are built from the same basic base types with minor adjustments, were it not for the hair differences the faces would look largely the same.

When they started work on the Luminous engine demo, a lot of these stored assets were put in to use to create it.

If you want verification, get a member of staff in JP to pm me and Ill gladly meet with them in person and take them to my workplace for a tour.

1)  Except they delete these assets too.   Since if you held such knowledge, you'd definitly remember that Kingdom Hearts 1.5 needed to be completely remade because Kingdom Hearts assets had been trashed.

2) Meanwhile, such assets sure didn't seem to keep down FF13's price down.

All videogame companies keep their assets around... and yet making games stays expensive as hell.

Like I said... likrly either lieing.  Or really not understanding what you saw.

Certaintly makes more sense the SE simply not doing anything for a couple generations... because they don't want money.

And Kitase saying that a FF7 remake would have to be the biggest project in his life.  Biggest project in your life sure sounds like a lot of work.

Espiecaly considering all the less then great financial results.

SE knows that a bad ff6,7,8 or 9 remake would destroy the FF brand. all the fns would see that SE ist rotten to the core and not able to make another good FF.

I like how you completely ignore the offer for verification to keep your agenda.

Your argument with me is a bit like a man telling a woman with kids how pregnancy feels I'm afraid.

It doesn't have anything to do with agenda's.

We don't have Tokyo staff members.  Or Japanese ones for that matter.  Or Asian... or Russian.... or Australian.

All Brits, Canadians and Yanks except one German.

Quite actually I'm the closest staff member to Tokyo, at a Brisk 11 hour flight.  Seems a bit much when it could simply be you don't understand what your talking about.

Either way, i'm telling you what Kitase, Square enix, and gaming journalists say.

So if your analogy applies to anyones argument... it would be your own.

Keep telling yourself that, seems you're doing a good job of convincing yourself.

Kitase says it would take 10 times as long to make as FF13.  Not really any convincing needed.

You've yet to come up with any legiatime reason to disagree with the guy who would actually be in charge of the thing.

Or a reason why SE wouldn't be doing it this very moment if they had the ability to.

All it really takes is to look at the scope between FF7 and FF13 to realy realize why it would take so much time and effort.

Once again, you either didn't understand, or simply are lying.

FF7 would of been out on the PS3 if it could of been done good and cheap.

Or just cheap for that matter.

Square Enix cash in remakes put Nintendo to shame.

You've already admitted you won't believe what the people who actually do work there, and are like... senior leaders in the project say though so I guess that's that.

Me, I'll take the Kitase, Square Enix and game journalists words over some nobody who may or may worth in the buisness.

Now if you can prove your Sakaguchi or Matsuno, that'd be something else.

And if your Matsuno, get the rights to work on some new Ogre Battle games already.

Lodis needs to be taken down.

At the end of the day, it's pretty simple.  If it was really so easy... why haven't they done it?

You are entirely under the assumption when I propose a certain style of remake that this vision is in line with what they have in mind, in all likelihood they would approach it differently, build everything from scratch, change most parts up and keep the basic story and characters intact and make it no longer a turn based affair.

However, if they wanted to build one leveraging their existing resources in much less time, and less cost, they COULD, but again, that depends on what they want the resulting remake to be, a true to the original copy or a ground up rebuild, if there's one thing square are notorious for its rebuilding rather than using perfectly viable assets.

That however does not detract from my point of them having enough resources in their archives to greatly reduce the cost of developing a game that uses them, so pointing to them saying it would cost a lot when they're looking at it from a point of a completely from scratch remake doesn't take any of that in to account.

If you get any future employees be sure to send them my way, you would be surprised by just how many places this "nobody" could take them behind the scenes of the industry.
