I blame the Wii for opening the pandora box of causal gamers who would not return and I blame Nintendo for not attracting them back to home consoles.

So it's really Nintendo's fault for not making a true successor to the Wii because we all knew Sony and Microsoft were less likely to do so.

Its funny cause during the gen, people would complain that the Wii was for casuals and demanded a more hardcore system. Funny how it works.

Wii U isn't a hardcore system though, either.  It's not competitive graphically with Microsoft and Sonys offerings and even if it aschews motion controlls for dual analog it's still a gimmicky controller.

I have to disagree. Once it lost motion controls as its main use of control and used a controller, it stopped beeing aimed at casuals and became aimed at hardcores. Hardcore is not just someone who likes pretty graphics. Its someone who likes to play good games without gimmicks.

It wasn't aimed at casuals, either.  It tried to be everything to everyone but didnt realize what would actually appeal to either crowrd.  A real hardcore system would have sold better I think, not great, but more on pace to at least match the N64 in numbers.

Thats because most the people who bought the wii wont be coming back. They are probably playing flappy bird as we speak.

I think you have the wrong idea of what hardcore is. The vita is a hardcore device and isnt selling wonders. Beeing hardcore does not directly equal to great sales.

I didn't say it would have great sales, I was saying if it was closer to the standard set by it's competitors, it would actually be a hardcore system and it would be selling better, not great, but better.  I then went on to point out why it wasn't seen as hardcore.  Even Nintendo wasn't marketing it towards the "hardcore market."  They launched the system with Nintendoland as the big pack in, and you can't tell me that that game was meant to attract the "hardcore" gamer.  Nintendoland was meant to show off the Wii U controller, it was meant to get people to play in a way they hadn't before.  Was it succesful?  No.  The fact is that they tried to replicate the success of the Wii (a new way to play) while also providing a more traditional control scheme for third parties and to attract traditional (and "hardcore") gamers.  You seem to think that hardcore means "not like the Wii." A true Wii successor would also be selling better, as well (and likely much better then a hardcore Nintendo system unless they balanced thier hardware and software amazingly) but the Wii U is niether.

By the way, I love my Wii U, I see the value in the controller, so much so that if I do get another current gen console it will most likely be a PS4 + Vita a few years down the road.  I don't think it needed the extra horse power or anything like that, but if you talk to the general gaming populace you will hear that it is just like the Wii an underpowered console with a gimmicky controller.  That's true.  That's not the sytem you launch if thats your primary demographic.

TLDR The Wii U fails at being a hardcore system.  It fails at being a Wii succesor.  If it was better at either, it wouldn't be bombing AS hard, but right now no audience sees a reason to own it.

Double post, sorry

In terms of sales you are correct. In terms of gaming appeal, i do think the Wii U is a system that is more appealing to hardcore gamers than the Wii. The problem is it isnt indeed appealing enough. Just as it isnt appealing enough to casuals either. I think Nintendo understands this now and its why they are coming up with a quality of life platform aimed at casuals. I am still unsure about what the hell they are doing with the Wii U though.

Because Wii U and Xbone didn't live to the hype... PS4 is doing more than its part... it will shell over Wii sales for sure but the question is if Wii U and Xbone will sell over 50 million

The generation has just started and you aready said that their will be no,growth ps4,XBox one have broken all records both are doing great right know XBox could pull more sales if,it was a bit cheap. Biggest games on both platforms have yet to come and you claim this generation will have smaller install base that might be true for Wii u but I don't see that happening for XBox or ps. I cannot predict what sales will Wii u have bit I can say easily XBox one will be 70-80m and ps4 will be 90-100 install base might fall short just because all casuals who bought Wii will not,buy Wii u otherwise install base for XBox and ps4 will increase for sure

Yes, I knew this even before the XBone sales started to fade. Smartphones/tablets/PCs are not only eating up the handheld market, but also the console market slowly but surely. The huge launches of the PS4 and One had to do with pent up demand from a long previous generation and demand in particular for the PS4 which may allow it to top the PS3 (but not the PS2). Now reality is setting in, at least for the One. And we know that the Wii U never got the 3DS like comeback and likely never will. So it's generation 6 again, with Sony domination and a close battle for second.
