The difference between the "unconfirmed specs" in the PS4 and WiiU is that the PS4 RAM spec is based on a single rumour. The WiiU spec rumours are based on hardware breakdowns (physical pics), inferences based on the knowledge of the architectures used and information garnered from hackers. Basically there are more information sources from which to make conclusions and even then the conclusions are still a "range" of specs unless Nintendo come out with the full truth (not going to happen).

You realise that everything Nintendo does is for profits? There's a good reason they iterate on Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda, Mario etc. with every generation. It may align with your sense of fun but its not for everyone.

And that's something I just wrote about in a blog post later, that's not entirely correct.
Nintendo knows it needs money to survive, but a close look at a company's behavior patterns and statements can give you the underlying message. Nintendo wants to just make games, they won't want to have to compete with Sony/Microsoft, they don't want to have to spend billions on hardware and graphics engines to lure "hardcore gamers" because it sells well, they don't even want to be mainstream (clearly). Nintendo has success and they know a familiar face brings people back, but if there ever was a company that seemed the LEAST interested in doing things for money, it would be Nintendo.

If you look at Nintendo's history its actually entirely correct; Nintendo are all about profit but simply use a different philosophy to Sony and Microsoft.
Nintendo have (prior to WiiU) never released a console for a loss (although they've dropped prices to compete e.g. Gamecube). They don't want to compete with Sony and Microsoft because after the Gamecube they realised they wouldn't survive if they did. They carved their own market with the Wii so they could profit without direct competition.
They don't want to be mainstream, they want to profit. Nearly all their games are targetted to appeal to the widest demographics possible (largest potential market). Even their core games are designed with art-styles that parents would perceive as child-friendly. Their games are designed with simplicity in mind (e.g. re-using assets, limited to no voice acting in many games) because it keeps costs down. They re-use familiar faces and franchises because they know it helps their games sell (more money!). They've kept their employee count ridiculously low for such a profitable company and run a tight, low cost and relatively efficient ship.
Nintendo are actually the most invested in financial reward out of the big three because video games are their bread and butter. They don't have a fall back. Sony and Microsoft have other divisions that could keep them afloat and have gone through generations where they've made an overall loss because they had other objectives in mind. Nintendo can't afford to do that.
