And yet, I'm sure we'll still have some people criticizing the game and its graphics because it's not pushing the system or something blah blah blah.

Allow me to oblige, good sir!

I do find it a tad disappointing that, where every previous game by Retro pushed its respective hardware, this plays it relatively safe, essentially taking a Wii engine, scaling up the resolution, and adding some next gen fur and water effects.

The Wii U, and Retro, are capable of more.

But that does not dampen by hype for it one bit; I buy games for the gameplay, not the graphics, and I have not been this excited for a game since DKCR in 2010.

A tad disappointing, sure. But in the end, I think the trend of Retro producing games with beautiful art design at a constant 60 fps... is more important than intentionally trying to make the hardware sweat profusely.

They used to do both; Metroid Prime 2 and 3 made the Gamecube and Wii hardware sweat profusely while still running at 60fps and having gorgeous art direction. ;)

Truth be told, I believe those games and DKCR needed to push their respective systems in order to help realize Retro's vision. And I don't think that's the case this time around.

I had it preordered already, but was pretty neutral towards it before seeing that trailer. It looks insanely fun, varied, and beautiful. And dat music. Man dat music. Nintendo always knows how to put out an amazing launch trailer for a game that's primarily gameplay. So many trailers seem to try to hide the gameplay behind cutscenes, but this trailer and the launch trailer for SM3DW put the gameplay front and center.

Looks great. DKCTF is what NSMBU should have been (or the whole series). Too bad that DKCTF most likely wont sell as much as NSMBU.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

I can honestly say based on my experience with a ton of 2d platformer games that this is without a doubt the best looking 2d/2.5d gmae I have ever seen. In fact, I'm not sure I've seen a game (ever) that has so much detail on so many small things! Retro has seriously outdone themselves this time! Still stunned that it's rendered in 3d!

blah blah blah Nintendo is doomed blah blah the Wii U is dead blah blah blah still won't help sales blah blah blah would look better if ported to PS4/Xbox One blah blah blah heard the game was horrible blah blah blah

blah

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

I am laughing at  all those peasants that made fun of Retro for making a DK game instead of Metroid or Star Fox.

Agreed; DKCR was certainly a lot better than NSMBW.
