Forums - Gaming Discussion - How long did you wait outside for you console?

I've never understood why people would wait around for hours to get a console (or almost any new items). I don't even see the point in preordering. It isn't like you aren't going to survive if you don't have it immediately.
If you didn't preorder, wait in line, or have connections it was very hard to get a Wii in my town for over a year.  Infact, all most stores still sell out the day they come in.

Launch day for Wii I waited out in the cold for about 13 hours. Actually I got there before they (Target) closed so I went in and bought some better gloves and a book to read.

I didn't wait at all for my Wii. I decided to head into town after lunch when the Wii launched to see if there was any set up to have a look at. When I got down there, there was still a few sitting in the cabinets (Big W). I decided to head around to the local games specialist store to see if they had one set up, which they did, so I spent a few minutes looking at it. After about 30 minutes of pondering if I'd actually buy one, I did.

I waited outside of Circuit City on Black Friday because of the excellent deals.  There were about 40 of my 22" monitor inside...I was near the front of the line...I came back to the store about 7 am out of curiosity and there were none left...that's why I make sure to wait for the good deals.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I probably should have made expection in my comment, but yes, one off deals I can understand.

When I reserved my Wii, it was still called Revolution ;) so I didn't wait for it at the launch :)

Dirty stop-out

I got my Wii launch day. Started waiting in line at 3 pm the day before....got my Wii at 8 am the next day. So 17 hours....and it was a blast. Almost as much fun as waiting in line for Phantom Menace (that was before we knew it sucked).

Not only did I walk into a store and get a Wii without waiting, I actually did it twice. Once with my brother, in Feb 2007, walked in and they had three, first in line. Wal-Mart was having problems with their locks on the display cases, so we actually had to wait 15 minutes for them to drill through the lock to get to the Wiis (it amazes me that they even had a chance to put them in there). That one is at home with my brother and parents.

The second time I walked in after work at about 11:30pm and they had 3 of them, and I bought one for myself at college.

I saw a third one at Wal-Mart during the summer, and was thinking of buying it to sell on ebay for mad money... but didn't knowing that some sick child might get it instead.

9 hours in front of Best Buy for the Wii's launch. I was 32nd out of 87 people. It was so freakin' cold.

I didn't bother camping for a ps3 once I found out that all the ebayers got there a few days early.  I got lucky, though, and my Uncle found one just two weeks later.  It was a launch window system, one of the first 400k that came with Talladega Nights.
