As much as I love Xbox Live and the original Xbox, this really isn't a fair contest. The Wii U has a whole home interface that works fantastically, numerous ways to communicate/interact with friends, and a very well designed online shop. Things that just weren't there, or not designed well on the original Xbox.
I understand the purpose of this thread as into shame the Wii U's online system. Yes compared to the competition it is behind, but as someone who has been an Xlive member for 9 years and gone through the progression, the upgrades attached with that time which Wii U has adopted definitely puts it above the original Xbox's online system.

I have a PS3 (no PSN+) and a Wii U, and I really don't see much difference, friends notifications are there, chat works fine on the games, online stability is good, and additional services are available to purchase. True there are less people playing the games but that issue is not related to the infrastructure but purchase options of the players.
The Wii U's online infrastructure work perfectly fine - I would say it is much better than the ps3 in my opinion. I would like to see nintendo implementing a paid service like playstation plus

Wii U. Miiverse is great and behind the scenes it's a lot better than 2004 tech. To the player though they are pretty similar.
Also what's this talk about online not working in platformers? Lag is only for player to player interaction, not player to world. Unless the platformer has you jumping off other players, the platforming mechanics aren't affected. Onlineplay is much simpler in a platformer than a shooter. The reason they don't do it is because the feature is unpopular, not because of technical issues.

Bullshit there is no service, you play games online, you go on their online shop, and aliens beam things down into the console while you sleep while you upload Mario kart features and dick around on miiverse

I strongly doubt any MH generated more traffic than Halo 2.

They mean that Wii U online is on the same level that the PS3 and Xbox 360, not Original Xbox. Remember that the Wii U generation is the same one as PS4 and XBox One.

Bullshit.
Its interface issues, which arent easily solved by technical application, you can only distort/manipulate the game engine in so many ways.
Try online in a platformer and come again
With a shooter, you shoot through walls remember? Its a lot of imprecise rendering that's redone to look precise. You should know this
