The PS4 and Xbox One are riding on hype and promises. Not to mention, it is the strongest of all consoles and unlike MS, Sony didn't piss off about 90% of their fanbase with their initial reveal and focus on TV and watercoolers.

The PS+ requirement for online was a pretty big bummer but it is paying off for anybody with a PS3, PS4 and Vita.

I am sure others have various reasons, but for me it comes down to brand. PlayStation to me represents gaming systems that have a varied catalog of games that interest me. Through 3 generations Sony has never let me down even if they did slip up early years of PS3 the latter ones were amazing.

I love Nintendo for their first parties and nostalgia will force me to once again buy their console again, but I had no rush to do so after not being crazy about the Wii. Sega's Dreamcast suffered largely due to poor handling of the Saturn. Microsoft makes solid consoles, but it is clear gamers with tastes such as mine are not their primary audience. That is fine, but cannot blame me for going with a company that does pander to my tastes in Sony.

The hype stems from the products image, public perception and its perceived value.

PR and advertising has run without a hitch since the initial unveil, and the ethos of a system that is designed purely for gamers, without any segregation or shift in focus, seems to have resonated with the hardcore. It's also been a masterstroke of design (mixed with a bit of luck), it's smaller, sleeker and yet rather astonishingly, also more powerful and less expensive than it's main competitor.

It doesn't matter what industry you're in, if a recognized brand launches a product that looks more appealing and gives higher performance at a cheaper price, the market will react.

This is really just a thread to get reactions anyway, the world has 6 billion people, everyone has their own wants, thoughts. It's not thread worthy to wonder why a certain portion of them want or like something. Why are people crazy over titanfall? because they are.

I was at Target the other night and saw a PS4... I sat there a moment and debated if I should get one, but, couldn't come up with 1 reason why I should. No compelling games, maybe I'll check back some time down the road.

I forgot PS+.

This makes PS4 the main next gen console to get.


I have an other question : Why the heck is everyone  so bad about everyone being so hyped about PS4 ? Cant you just accept this like everyone did with Wii, PS2,...? This is how the world works.

It's not like if it was not well deserved by many aspects

Excellent price for the hardware you're getting, plus it already has the definitive console versions of most of today's most popular games (BF, CoD, NBA, Madden, Fifa, etc.), not to mention awesome video apps and a steaming service like Twitch. A monkey can figure out that the console just being shy of 4 months old isn't going to have a robust library of games or apps. It takes early adopters to put money into what's there so that the console manufacturer and devs alike can put more money into bringing more games to it. There's over 100 games confirmed for 2014 alone, and a few already planned for 2015 and beyond. PS4 is great. This seems more like a "Why are people buying PS4 over WiiU?!?!" type of outcry.

But really as a PS fan im confused myself. I was NEVER expecting it to have the best launch of any system ever, not by a long shot. But Sony did everything right. I get why its beating One but even then i thought it would have a mil lead maximum and its more than that. I did think WIi U would flounder after the beast that was Wii.

Playstation is just the more popular brand, at least when it comes to home consoles. Its a fact at this point.

It's just the cycle of the industry...embrace it, hate it, love it, whatever. The industry will take its course and flip flop in a few years.
Nintendo screwed up the Game cube and was successful with Wii. Microsoft screwed up the original Xbox and was successful with X360. Sony screwed up PS3 and will be successful with PS4. Each one of them will transition as the hated and loved console. This is just Sony's time, love it or hate it, that's reality..
