2015? You've got to be kidding me.
What? Oh yes, Zelda should be coming by then, or near. But not like this. No way like this.

Too early to cut the 3DS short i'd say, though if 2014 proves a poor year for 3DS sales, then your position might have more merit.
2016 seems a good time to introduce a "portable Wii U" of sorts, to bridge brands for a year (and give Wii U a stronger final year than its predecessors via full cross-compatibility, however the U itself is selling by then, a "new" platform will spark more interest and get the titles flowing again) and then launch "Nintendo TVii" as a power-boosting home dock for said portable Wii U the following year

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
if will happen something like that, will be like DKCR: will launch on wii U, and later, 2 years or so, a remake will be in the nintendo next handheld.
I think you're right. Iwata said as much, that a unified OS will allow porting of assets from handheld to home and vice versa quicker to avoid droughts at launch. I think it will go the other way too. Nintendo's next home console will get upgraded versions of the new handheld's games when it launches the following year. We're seeing hints of this already with 3DLand/World and Smash for U and 3DS. With the unified OS, it will become much easier.
(and no, I don't think the next home console will be a "terminal" - I think it will be its own property and more powerful ( or at least different) than the handheld, but will be linked and similar to the portable)

I'm calling it now. Zelda U will release (like Twilight Princess) for two Nintendo platforms ... for Wii U and also a new Nintendo portable that's capable of handling ports from the Wii U at a reduced resolution (540p for example). So you'll be able to play it at home or on the road. Both the next Nintendo portable and Zelda U will launch in the second half of 2015. EAD will take lessons learned from Zelda: ALBW's development (specifically pacing/non-linear design) and incorporate that into Zelda U, much like Mario 3D World combines elements from 2D Mario and 3D/Galaxy games into a 3D Mario game. This will also let Nintendo gain at least an extra 1-2 million WW sales for the game which will help recoup development costs and maximize profit potential. Other (by 2015) older Wii U games will also be ported IMO like DKC: TF for portable play. I believe the next Mario from EAD Tokyo (Mario Galaxy 3?) could also follow the same release pattern ... for both Nintendo Next Gen Portable + Wii U release. |
Stop trying to make a "next gen portable console" happen. It's not going to happen.
Prediction: This OP will look awfully silly once the next Zelda is released :P

It's not only happening, it likely already exists in Nintendo's R&D labs.
The 3DS is supposed to be their last handheld? C'mon, lol.

What you're talking about isn't the 3DS's successor. What you're talking about is the Wii U tablet being sold as it's own system with the ability to play Wii U and 3DS games without being tethered to the Wii U. That's not happening and that's not what Nintendo were talking about. Especially not in 2015.
I don't doubt that the next Nintendo handheld will be a "fusion" device. I don't doubt that it will start Nintendo's iOS/Android business model. I don't doubt that it will be powerful enough to play downgraded Wii U and Wii U successor games over the same Nintendo Network operating system without the need for porting. But it will have two screens and it will still largely be a dedicated handheld only device.
But this isn't like Twilight Princess. Not going to happen.
