You seem to be missing the point. Nobody is saying Vita is doing amazingly well and 3DS horribly. What the percentages do tell us is that Vita is improving and 3DS is falling fast. Usually when a console starts falling that fast there is no turning back so expect 3DS to be down YOY every year from now on. Vita on the other hand will very likely be up YOY this year, which is a positive sign for its longevity and game support in Japan.

Bold: Yeah, I'll remember that when Vita starts outselling 3DS on a regular basis in Japan. I give it a year or two. Vita and WiiU are barely comparable in Japan, because Vita's baseline is almost 200% higher. One has pretty damn good game support from Japanese devs while the other has practically none.

You're only looking at the now, while I (along with others) am looking at the trend and the future based on that trend.

You remember that, so will I. The vita will not outsell the 3ds in two years. After that? What's it matter? That's like bragging about running ten miles, in an hour, but saying you've got some kind of victory because you ran  three miles in 4 hours.... Oh you were able to run longer? So what, the race ended hours ago.... After 5-6 years of the 3ds being #1, and it's replacement coming, who cares if the vita is still running in a race it lost years ago? You'll still be talking about  percentages, when the only one that matters is, the vita lost 100%. By the time the next Nintendo portable comes out, maybe the vita will still be out, but, at that point who cares? The psp is still out too, it didn't win anything either.... Keep grasping those straws..... And this is just an observation but, here goes. Unless you live in Japan and are going to be enjoying those Japan only games, what's the benefit for you? Besides it  helping an argument for those most would describe a fanboy( not you specifically)?  I would love to see some awesome games come to the vita, I own one, but the reality is, it's DEAD. Here, there, everywhere. Being a hyperbolic fan is never going to change that. And as far as games go between the wiiu and vita, yeah bud, neither one has any, but the wiiu has two big ones coming that are bigger than all the Indy and second rate games coming to the vita combined, worldwide. No need to be so defensive over Sony tho, they have the #1 console, so just stick to bragging about that! The vita just makes you seem desperate.....  Celebrate the actual victories, pezus, don't try to fabricate them....

How about responding to my arguments for once instead of going on an almost off-topic rant?

I'll respond to your only point here: "The vita will not outsell the 3ds in two years." - How about supporting that with something other than going off on a rant about how Vita is dead, when it's obviously NOT, as evident by its sales increasing. Call it a zombie if you want, but dead it is not. I'll tell you why it matters if Vita will last longer than 3DS: It would get more game support for longer, just like PSP vs. DS.

I'll also tell you why it matters to me: 1) Because Japanese games actually release quite often in the West. I know, that's a shocker. 2) Because we're in a Japan sales thread. I wonder why you're here since you only care about the console at the top and all below that top spot are supposedly dead.

Yeah the psp was dominating, with mediocre sales, over a system that was replaced. The vita, was also being outsold by the psp, I'm sure Sony loved that. And unless you live in Japan, you're not getting hardly any games, just like were not here in the us. Hell, it's not getting hardly anuthing in Japan either, except b titles and ports and Indi titles. That's why in every top 20-30 there's 2-5 vita games vs 9-15 or more 3ds games.

So, my point is, just incase you still don't get it, is the vita will not outsell the 3ds until it gets replaced by its successor. So, while nintendos next handheld will be kicking the ass of Sonys vita and it's successor(if there is one),you will be clinging to straws, bragging about how the vita is winning a race already lost, to a handheld replaced.

And you say the vita is on the rise in japan? Sure it's up a bit, but has also been consistently dropping to the low 20,000's... Not up. You talk about its legs? It'll need em just to sell 20 million. If the wiiu is dead selling around 10,000 a week, in the land of handhelds, how in the hell is 20,000 some resounding come back? It's not. That's just hyperbolic talk by you. Japan is all about handhelds, and the vita is barely selling more than the old ps3, and also dead wiiu.

i responded to all of your points, you choose to not read them. Off topic rant? Lol, sure, when everything I said was about the vita and it's sales in Japan.... Ok, if you say so. I'm sorry if you didn't like it. You always seem to be more than happy to rub it in x1 fans faces about the ps4 doing much better than the x1, why can't you handle it when I simply make an argument about the 3ds's dominance? This is a sales site, and it goes both ways. Good day, sir.

9 of the top 20 are 3ds, and 12 of the top 30 are 3ds, 2 of the top 20 are vita, 4 of the top 30 are vita, the 3ds is still, at it worst, outselling the vita by almost 2-1, vita at it best. People here saying the 3ds is tanking, and vita is doing very well... Vita sells more 3rd party games, how? It's still being blown away by 3ds, the 3ds has almost 50% of the top 20 and 30, while the vita stumbles in with 2-3 here and there? What are some of you people on, seriously?! That's like trying to say the wiiu is doing great in America, because it's selling 20,000 a week! C'mon, let's keep it real, for real!

lol.. this is internet bro..... we can´t expect people to be that reasonable or rational. It´s all about brand fanboyism you know.

all for all, Vita is doing good for a week with a big release and the 3ds is doing good in a week with no releases.

Which big release? All I'm seeing is a recent 3DS game that actually sold more than any Vita title. You could say 3DS was only that high because of Kirby*

*Phrase changed a bit from the original

Yeah, you're right. The 3ds was only that high because of Kirby, it never before that game, sold that high. And as far as your percentages go, sure, 100% up for vita sounds impressive, and the 3ds down 50% sounds horrid, but up 100% from 8,000-10,000 sounds a lot less impressive, now doesn't it? And the down from 80,000 to 40,000 for 3ds sounds terrible too, but being up almost 100% over the vita sounds much more impressive still, doesn't it? Funny when people want to hype up something they'll use percentages, because the actual numbers are still pathetic. Thing is, regardless of percentages, the 3ds is still the top seller there, by a lot.... Of percent, lol. No matter the personal preferences, 3ds is still the top dog, and the vita is still basically doa.

The wiiu is done, the vita is done, no amount of spin will alter their fortunes(or lack there of) I have a vita and a wiiu, and it shocks me how people can actually try to kid themselves and say they are not dead. They are, and one more thing, the 3ds is still $170- for the base model and $200 for the xl- in Japan. That's still more than the ds ever was, and a nice price drop, it will pick up to it's higher levels, which I know will kill some here. The 3ds is far from being outsold by the vita, and will not happen. Mark my words. I'm not talking about a one week thing either, but consistently out sell it. Here's a percentage for you: I 100% guarantee the vita will not outsell the 3ds for any two week period in all of 2014, or for more than 4 weeks the entire year.... This entire message is not directed at you, pezus, just the beginning. The rest is just a rant, a personal feeling on the matter.

Just a few things

1. A system can not be considered dead if its showing improvement. The Vita is up YoY, if it was dead it wouldnt be.

2. DSi launched at $169 and DSi XL at $189 so yes DS was in that price range at one point.

I'll give you that, but let's not say the thing is making some come back after such a short time. People here are so eager to say the 3ds is tanking and basically done, while the vita is up and somehow resurrected.... A few more months and ok, but, it's been what, January? Plus, I'd hardly call going from 8,000-10,000 sales to 20,000 a huge turnaround.... Sure, it's an improvement, but let's not get overly excited about it.... Yet.

The wiiu was also showing some signs of improvement, bigger than the vitas, in Japan, and people were getting overly excited about that too. And that thing was pushing some pretty good numbers there too. Now look. I just don't believe there is anything to truly make me believe that it is going to surpass the 3ds any time soon, and I honestly don't think it will even maintain a baseline of. 20,000 per week. I think it will drop to around 12,000 per week sooner rather than later.

Good talking to you zorg, you're a pretty good guy, I enjoy the back and forth we have. Have a good one!

Who has said 3DS is basically done? I havent seen anybody say that, just that it has peaked. A system can peak and still go on to have many great years, Wii/DS each peaked in 2008 but they still went on to sell another 60 million a piece.

Yes this is  annoying some people in neogaf already talk aout the next handheld just beause 3ds sale last year are better then this years Nintendo can still release a lot of big game and make another 3ds price cut.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

3DS is only dying in the same sense that a 40 year old man is dying because his life is half over. I believe that 3DS has peaked worldwide but it still has 2-3 years of solid sales left in it. This year has Kirby, Yoshi, Mario Golf, Smash Bros, Bravely Default (US), Disney Magical Castle (west), Dragon Quest Joker 2(Japan), Monster Hunter 4G (Japan), and more unannounced games to come. 2015 could see a decent sized price cut, Dragon Quest 11, Pokemon Z/Gen 3 remake and others that will keep sales from tanking. 2016 will probably see a successor release. I could see yearly sales being something like 2014-13.5 million, 2015-11 million, 2016-7 million which would put it at roughly 75 million by the end 2016.

I agree , for the most part, except of course the peaked part. That remains to be seen....
