SHUT UP.

Yeah, you're right. The 3ds was only that high because of Kirby, it never before that game, sold that high. And as far as your percentages go, sure, 100% up for vita sounds impressive, and the 3ds down 50% sounds horrid, but up 100% from 8,000-10,000 sounds a lot less impressive, now doesn't it? And the down from 80,000 to 40,000 for 3ds sounds terrible too, but being up almost 100% over the vita sounds much more impressive still, doesn't it? Funny when people want to hype up something they'll use percentages, because the actual numbers are still pathetic. Thing is, regardless of percentages, the 3ds is still the top seller there, by a lot.... Of percent, lol. No matter the personal preferences, 3ds is still the top dog, and the vita is still basically doa. The wiiu is done, the vita is done, no amount of spin will alter their fortunes(or lack there of) I have a vita and a wiiu, and it shocks me how people can actually try to kid themselves and say they are not dead. They are, and one more thing, the 3ds is still $170- for the base model and $200 for the xl- in Japan. That's still more than the ds ever was, and a nice price drop, it will pick up to it's higher levels, which I know will kill some here. The 3ds is far from being outsold by the vita, and will not happen. Mark my words. I'm not talking about a one week thing either, but consistently out sell it. Here's a percentage for you: I 100% guarantee the vita will not outsell the 3ds for any two week period in all of 2014, or for more than 4 weeks the entire year.... This entire message is not directed at you, pezus, just the beginning. The rest is just a rant, a personal feeling on the matter. |
Just a few things
1. A system can not be considered dead if its showing improvement. The Vita is up YoY, if it was dead it wouldnt be.
2. DSi launched at $169 and DSi XL at $189 so yes DS was in that price range at one point.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I'll give you that, but let's not say the thing is making some come back after such a short time. People here are so eager to say the 3ds is tanking and basically done, while the vita is up and somehow resurrected.... A few more months and ok, but, it's been what, January? Plus, I'd hardly call going from 8,000-10,000 sales to 20,000 a huge turnaround.... Sure, it's an improvement, but let's not get overly excited about it.... Yet.
The wiiu was also showing some signs of improvement, bigger than the vitas, in Japan, and people were getting overly excited about that too. And that thing was pushing some pretty good numbers there too. Now look. I just don't believe there is anything to truly make me believe that it is going to surpass the 3ds any time soon, and I honestly don't think it will even maintain a baseline of. 20,000 per week. I think it will drop to around 12,000 per week sooner rather than later.
Good talking to you zorg, you're a pretty good guy, I enjoy the back and forth we have. Have a good one!

Who has said 3DS is basically done? I havent seen anybody say that, just that it has peaked. A system can peak and still go on to have many great years, Wii/DS each peaked in 2008 but they still went on to sell another 60 million a piece.

Well I won't point the finger at anyone directly, but there are those who are implying that in japan, the 3ds is dropping like a stone fast, and with no sign of it slowing. That to me implies "done". And to peak in one region, does not mean it's peaked, because there is the rest of the world too. I just simply personally believe it's far from done, and hasn't peaked yet, maybe in japan, but no one can really say that until, well, next year, when the numbers prove it. But I still think it's the world wide numbers that count most, because regional numbers jump around from month to month anyway.... This is a debate better left until there is more data anyway, so all of it it just speculation anyhow. No one knows anything of how the entire year will turn out, no one knows if there will be that one amazing, smash hit that takes everyone by surprise and make it sell more than anyone could expect. Not one of us here is a fortune teller.

Japan 2012 total-5.5 million
Japan 2013 total-5.1 million
Japan first 3 full weeks 2013-265k
Japan first 3 full weeks 2014-150k
Are people wrong to say its dropping fast and has peaked? At the moment it is selling about 60% of 2013 sales in the same time frame, if this continues for the remainder of the year it will sell about 3 million in Japan in 2014. Of course its possible it doesnt continue to follow this trend, maybe 2DS will come to Japan and cause a boost or maybe Smash Bros will be huge in Japan or some new mega selling ip will launch this year.
Ur right that one single region peaking doesnt mean it has worldwide. For example DS peaked in 2006 in Japan but globally it peaked in 2008. Right now 3DS is doing better than last year everywhere except for Japan. Despite this, it is still down YoY by a small margin. Again something could come along and cause a big sales spike. Like u said none of us are fortune tellers but the difference is that people who say 3DS is dropping and has peaked are using actual data to support there arguments.
