Well I won't point the finger at anyone directly, but there are those who are implying that in japan, the 3ds is dropping like a stone fast, and with no sign of it slowing. That to me implies "done". And to peak in one region, does not mean it's peaked, because there is the rest of the world too. I just simply personally believe it's far from done, and hasn't peaked yet, maybe in japan, but no one can really say that until, well, next year, when the numbers prove it. But I still think it's the world wide numbers that count most, because regional numbers jump around from month to month anyway.... This is a debate better left until there is more data anyway, so all of it it just speculation anyhow. No one knows anything of how the entire year will turn out, no one knows if there will be that one amazing, smash hit that takes everyone by surprise and make it sell more than anyone could expect. Not one of us here is a fortune teller.

Japan 2012 total-5.5 million

Japan 2013 total-5.1 million

Japan first 3 full weeks 2013-265k

Japan first 3 full weeks 2014-150k

Are people wrong to say its dropping fast and has peaked? At the moment it is selling about 60% of 2013 sales in the same time frame, if this continues for the remainder of the year it will sell about 3 million in Japan in 2014. Of course its possible it doesnt continue to follow this trend, maybe 2DS will come to Japan and cause a boost or maybe Smash Bros will be huge in Japan or some new mega selling ip will launch this year.

Ur right that one single region peaking doesnt mean it has worldwide. For example DS peaked in 2006 in Japan but globally it peaked in 2008. Right now 3DS is doing better than last year everywhere except for Japan. Despite this, it is still down YoY by a small margin. Again something could come along and cause a big sales spike. Like u said none of us are fortune tellers but the difference is that people who say 3DS is dropping and has peaked are using actual data to support there arguments.
