Forums - Nintendo - Is the talk of a new Nintendo console off putting?

As the title says. The Wii U is still in it's infancy and Nintendo is already discussing plans about the next console. What message is this sending to people who are interested in buying a Wii U? Because this is just telling me to wait until they get it right with the next console.

I understand they start planning the next console sometime after the current one is released but it's way too early to be disclosing that info to the public. I think they're addressing the fusion rumour which is a stupid move. I was thinking of buying a Wii U soon but now i'm so sure.

Thoughts?

I think the thoughts you described are 100% correct.

There is a lot of untapped potential in the Wii U. Iwata has stated that Miyamoto and his teams are to come up with games that utilize the gamepad and show off its potential, whilst there is the NFC feature that hasnt been used yet but could have tons of ideas like Smash Bros figures or a fully fledged Pokemon NFC game. Then there is the high profile games coming this year too, im genuinely excited for what Ninty have in store for Wii U.

Their next console will be a bare minimum of 4 years away. If you're tempted to get a WiiU then buy one and enjoy it.

It's not off-putting as it's all completely made up.

I agree. They should be talking about the Wii U. Obviously the talk is for Nintendo's investors and not the common folk, but it is off-putting to hear Nintendo saying so much about their future products and not what is currently on the market.

It is, a little. Haven't even bought a WiiU yet; awaiting MK8.

It excites me. They are finally making it sound like they are going to make an effort and not just hope to sell of off mario.

I understand peoples concerns but this is just for the shareholders, the Wii U has another 3 years in it and Nintendo is not suddenly gonna stop making games for it. That would just cost them more money as software is where they make their profit and theres still room to determine whether the systems only reaches 15m or whether it reaches 30m. Ninty will do everything over the next few years to make that 30m. Even if they wanted to release a new system 2moro, they are obliged to let the PS4 and XO peak first otherwise they would simply be committing suicide.

Not to me.

They're also talking about their next console being based on the Wii U's architecture, so they have every reason to continue ironing the bugs out of the Wii U (and to continue to develop games for it, of course).

But they're not talking about their next console. A lot of you seem to be confused by their use of the word "platform", when they were using it in a strictly "business model" sense of the word. I'm fairly certain they have no plans to have a new console any sooner than 2016, and I'd wager 2017 at the earliest to be honest.

Considering what a piece of shit the Wii U is for the price, I'm actually somewhat excited.

That said, it'd still make me a little weary to buy their new console until at least 3 years in. Business wise, it might be smarter to keep quiet.

Yes, because you can totally, rationally judge a system to be a "piece of shit" after one year on the fucking market, long before it's best games inevitably come out.

Kudos.
