Forums - Nintendo - Is the talk of a new Nintendo console off putting?

It's all bullshit. Nintendo are not planning a new console or handheld for this generation, Nintendo are not abandoning the Wii U, Nintendo are not morons.

The self congratulatory gaggle of morons who make up the majority of the internet seem to think they know the industry far too well, when in actual fact they know jack shit. All these YouTubers, blogs and forum posts where people are saying "Nintendo should just drop the Wii U" are idiocy of the highest order from people who don't have the faintest clue what they're talking about.

Currently the Wii U is the BEST SELLING CONSOLE OF THIS GENERATION!!!! I just want to stress this, because people seem to have forgotten. It's also the cheapest console of this generation, has the most exclusives, and has the most sort after first party titles. The console, when compared to the Wii is a failure sure, but that's nothing important. We're in a time of austerity, of financial crisis; it's reasonable to assume some people are not buying entertainment devices at this time. The rush for the PS4 and Xbone is no more indicative of the way the consumer market will pan out than the PS3's disastrous launch was last gen. After all, we all remember the people decrying the PS3 as "dead on arrival" don't we...

Abandoning the Wii U would be commercial suicide. They would piss off the developers and consumers who have invested in the Wii U, which would likely include the Nintendo hardcore fanbase, and it would foster mistrust. Just like with Sega and the problems with the Saturn; throwing out new consoles in quick succession doesn't solve an issue. No; rather Nintendo will simply stand by what they have and will make a fun and engaging console with interesting games. Consider as well; the industry is in a fucking tailspin at the moment...

People are quick to forget the Video Game Crash of 2013 because some people like to pretend it didn't happen. Well it did, and much like the crash of 1983, which took till late 1985 to recover; this one is still ongoing, still taking massive swathes out of the industry, and could continue on for years yet. Hell, let's face it, the good ship 'video gaming' slammed into the iceburg back in 2011 and has been taking on water ever since. Black Rock Studios, Team Bondi, Dark Energy, Paragon, 38 Studios, Lucas Arts, Black Hole Entertainment, Zipper Interactive, Hudson Soft... oh yeah, and THQ and fucking Atari!!! These are all gone now. All backrupt, bought out, and sold on; and who wants to bet we could be adding another few prominent names to this list, (I'm looking at you Capcom). We're at a point where video games companies are crying that they're losing money because games aren't selling 6m+ copies at launch. We're at a time where development is several hundred million dollars, and several years beyond uncomfortable at this point and the industry cannot keep up. What does Nintendo have to offer... games and franchises far cheaper to produce than the industry AAA standards; but that can and will match them for sales.

Nintendo will be just fine. Will it sell fantastic amounts and drag Nintendo up to new heights. Probably not. But will it be a decent console that Nintendo will easily support for at least another 5 years or more... certainly. Is Nintendo working on their new console; sure, because they're a hardware manufacturer, and that's what they do, Sony and Microsoft are undoubtedly doing the same. Is it off putting for me; not in the slightest. Do all these stupid moronic people on YouTube and across gaming blogs who have no interest in Nintendo anyway; saying how Nintendo should drop the Wii U and make a new console with better hardware for them to equally ignore, piss me off.... yes it fucking does.

"Yeah, Nintendo should so just drop the Wii U and make a new proper next gen console that can really compete with the other two" - Douchy McShitbrain
"Oh OK. So you'd buy it if Nintendo released a new high end console then?" - Me
"Hell nah bro. Nintendo's for kids, I ain't playing no Mario shit" - D McSB

That's about the size of it. A bunch of idiots telling Nintendo how to best sabotage their own company. Sure, let's do that why don't we... I'm sure Nintendo is thinking that every time they read this shit.

r and d is on going and never stop.... that applies to all company.... they just spilled the bean because people are accusing nintend/iwata is not makign any actions or don't have future plans....

i know i know it shouldve been a future plan for the future of wii u that should've been announce...

but hey... that debunk that nintendo is doom and they will drop the hardware business... and that would help to pull investors that think nintendo will drop their hardware next gen.

confirmed 9th gen console so far:

nintendo system
nothing follows.

man, you only have to have 1 home console each 2, if you dont matter to play old games.
the next home console will play wii U games.
But if you had GC, but didnt have wii, wii U is a good choice.

Don't worry man. They'll release their next console after Zelda U releases in holiday 2016, so Wii U has another 3-4 years.

I can't argue with this fact, but everyone knows it won't be like this in the next couple of months.

well if you want to be insecure about some rumors then it is your choice. Life is t short to as what if.

If you want to play games that are on a system then just do it.

Insecure? It's called dedecutive reasoning, smartass. Why do you think people can paid to do it? But I guess life is too short to make rational decisions...

Get used to these sorts of responses.

No one is really sure about whether or not Nintendo will adopt fusion, or what fusion really means to begin with. It does seem too early for talks about a new unified gaming platform (not QoL) which is clearly taking place. And yes it will put some people off, and rightfully so.

Nintendo wont abandon the WiiU however, they'll ride it out regardless. If you feel its 1st party and exclusive games are worth it then feel free to purchase it. I dont know how badly you want it but I suggest you wait for a price drop or more of your desired games to come out/be announced.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

No, and I have a Wii U. I've had a Wii U through two Christmas seasons and have had lots of fun with it. I'd like to see a new system come in about 3 years for the standard 5 year life cycle. Since you don't buy systems at launch, I don't know why you care. If you buy Nintendo's next system 2 years into its life like you are considering doing with Wii U, you'll have had your Wii U for 5 years before that comes up anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't mind Nintendo launching something even sooner. Wii U isn't that expensive and I save money on online fees with it so it's money well spent. If something new was announced, I'd be excited for it.

Nintendo always start working on the next console right away. This is nothing to worry about.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

I'm happy with the Wii U, but I hope with the next generation Nintendo just releases a console with enough power and a normal controller with analogue triggers and not digital ones. If you were to ask me for a controller design for the next Nintendo console the retro classic controller looks great.

Considering what a piece of shit the Wii U is for the price, I'm actually somewhat excited.

That said, it'd still make me a little weary to buy their new console until at least 3 years in. Business wise, it might be smarter to keep quiet.
