Cute. Well, if you want to include last gen systems: Nintendo 304.1m consoles > Sony 175.31m consoles
So, no they are not.
Let's not even compare both companies' software sales, which would only further disprove your flimsy 'annihilation' assertion.

I was obviously talking about weekly sales, (UK weekly, to be even more specific,), but keep spinning and reaching if it helps you sleep better at night.
Sony if you feel Nintendo needs help then rent them out your advertisement directors. Its you're best feature (and their worst)..

Really? What makes you think Nintendo is stronger than ever?
I personally don't want Sony to shift their attention to 'young' gamers and casuals. If they go down that track I'll be gaming elsewhere.

Nintendo isnt declining?
Nintendo handheld sales after 2.5-3 years
GBA sales end of 2003-46.7 million
DS sales end of 2007-64.1 million
3DS sales end of 2013-42.2 million
Nintendo console sales after first full year
GC sales end of 2002-7.1 million
Wii sales end of 2007-19.5 million
Wii U sales end of 2013-5.5 million
Not only have they declined from Wii/DS era but they are also currently doing worse than the GC/GBA era which was their worst generation. Also here is the annual hardware sales from 2008 (best year) til now.
2008-53.8 million (Wii+DS)
2009-48.8 million (Wii+DS)
2010-38 milion (Wii+DS)
2011-34.5 million (Wii+DS+3DS)
2012-24.5 million (Wii+DS+3DS+Wii U)
2013-20 million (Wii+DS+3DS+Wii U)
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

The shift to "casuals" is already occuring.
Sony tried to capture that market with the Playstation 3 with the "Move".
Then they are making some big pushes with indies, if they secure an exclusive indie that turns out to be the next Minecraft... Meow.
However, the split attention towards casuals and the more "serious" gamers started last generation on all platforms, it's unavoidable, it's more money, which is what a for-profit business exists for.
Personally, I do agree with Sony that if Nintendo does sink it would be bad for the entire market, competition breeds innovation and lower prices, it's one of the fantastic things about capitalism.

Nintendo is NOT in decline. WiiU is a failed product. Thats it, they will move on and be successful again with ease. |
The thing is in the home console market Nintendo has been in decline for several generations. NES>SNES>N64>GC. If anything Wii was a blip on the radar and Wii U is actually a return to form in home consoles. What has kept Nintendo safe over the last few decades is handhelds. Gameboy and gameboy advance were both highly successful, both of them outselling their contemporary home consoels by large margins. And then there was DS, when all comes out in the wash it has probnably outsold PS2, but in any case damned close and so a humungous success.
3DS got off to a bad start, Nintendo had to cut the price to the point they were losing money on hardware. It's stayed low and Nintendo felt the need to put out a supporting, cheaper sku (2DS) to boost sales. And for the first time Nintendo released a home console which sold at a loss. making the negative growth in handhelds quite a problem, because they don't have a highly profitable platform to subsidise the unprofitable one. Hence a number of quarters of losses.
Nintendo lost the big spending console gamers to PS (who went and lost quite a few to XB), and despite Wii's apparent success they haven;t figured out how to get them back. And now handhelds face their first ever serious competition in phones and tablets, and so the handheld market is shrinking too.
Nintendo's cash reserves are keeping them healthy for now, but their situation is pretty serious. They need to live off their income not their savings.
