720p is 3 times as many pixels as 480p, 1080p is only double 720p.

ONLY if you compare 480p in 4:3 (640x480) to 720p 16:9 (1280x720) it is a factor of 3.

  • 852x480 (16:9) = 409 kPixel
  • 1280x720 (16:9) = 922 kPixel (factor 2.25)
  • 1920x1080 (16:9) = 2074 kPixel (factor 2.25)

So it is the same factor going from 480p to 720p and going from 720p to 1080p

Except the Wii didn't render at 480x853, it rendered at 480x640.

They havent been replaced, they are stocked longside the PS4 and XB1 with no sign of being discontinued.

Wii U, X1, and PS4 are out. They've been replaced.

You seem to have big problems to grasp the idea, that a manufacturer offers more than one console concurrently to reach different groups of buyers.

As I said, they call it last gen now for a reason.

Offering an additional model while keeping the other model in the market is not a replacement.

PS3 and 360 have been replaced as the current generation. They are now last gen.

For once you are right, I forgot that shitty NTSC limitations that didn't supported native 16:9 but had to stretched 4:3 pictures to widescreen.

I didnt say wii U X1 and PS4 are not out. I said the PS3 and 360 has never been discontinued.

And consoles dont get replaced, they keep selling until demand dies out and its not worth making them anymore.

Is it too hard to understand that a company can keep multiple SKU's active at the same time?

There's a reason PS3/360/Wii are now called "last gen". They have replaced as current gen consoles by PS4/X1/Wii U.

Labelling it last gen and saying next gen systems are out still doesnt prove the overwhelming evidence that PS360's are still in production and retailers are still distributing them (in other words, not been replaced)

The definition of 'replace' doesnt allow the PS4 to be a replacement of the PS3, at the very best its a simultaneously manufactured product.

The notion that PS3 sales are no longer count because PS4 is ridiculous anyway.

You sound like a broken record... is it the fear of the possibility that some of the 7th generation records of the Wii could be broken? ;)

Don't fear, even if the Wii should lose its pole position in software sales and/or hardware sales, it will keep its records of highest profitability, shortest support duration and smallest selection of good games.

If you argue the same point ten times, you'll get the same response ten times.

What's ridiculous is the idea that you can "win" a generation years after it passed the baton to the next gen.
