Glad that isn't a rule in the United States.

May I ask why? How does it benefit you as a consumer that the biggest companies are left alone to rampage through massive, cynical advertising due to a lack of rules of conduct and competition premises? Competiton is a good thing for consumers and the market in general.

I'm sure if it was that big of a deal then there would probably be a law against it, but since there isn't I can only assume that it isn't that big of a deal. I mean why does it matter if one company pokes fun about another? As long as it isn't malicious that is.

It is malicious, that's the point. Companies know no boundries as profits are all that matter. The law is here to regulate in such situations.

The lack of a law against in the US does not mean it's no big deal. It means your law makers are weak against the almighty lobbyists. I'm glad the EU is much more in balance.

What's malicious about MS saying trade in your PS3 for 100 credit towards a Xbox One? Also I agree our lawmakers are spinless pigs, but I could probably guess a good amount of the lawmakers in the EU are the same way.

You're right on both accounts and no there is not much wrong here. It's just that this practice is mostly bad news and is only beneficial to those who have more advertising dollars.

But let's not get off topic that much haha. It's just the difference between us europeans where socialism rules and you americans where capitalism rules that's all! (Somewhat of a stereotype, but you get my point)

wow people are so sensitive against anything MS does. Here in Canada, they have offers similar to this for many industry including upgrade your old phone of (replace any brand) and get a (replace brand) for $100 off. Just cause MS said PS3 instead of Wii (can't get $100 for that), Sony fans are all up in arms. A month ago I got rid of my PS3 plus 2 games for $100. Had I known this deal I would have taken it up in a heart beat and trade the games in for more credit.

..Simmer that ass down

I don't know why but I busted out laughing for some reason reading that.

We don't have laws like that in the US and yet, the airwaves aren't full of companies slinging mud at one another. This is extremely tame too.

I remember Microsoft calling iPhone fans and later the Samsung ones sheep for buying the new devices, which is not incorrect lol.

But maybe that's because of the sue culture you guys have got going on over there. You can't sue here, well it's veryy hard.

I find such advertisements funny, but not any more convincing than any normal one. Still, I don't live in the US and I can't tell whether the y influence people on making decisions and purchases.

This, I stole from grandpa...It's called soap.

You got ripped off, dude.

Where were you when I was buying a PS3? :|

See, MS don't really know how to remain classy. They get caught red handed while taking a cheap shot and people hate them for it.

Sony on the other hand is extremely sly. They'll deliver a frontal low blow, but everyone appreciates it for the class with which it is delivered. Case in point, E3.

MS is not 'taking a cheap shot' at Sony with this.
Nothing about it disparages Sony in any way.
They are just offering to buy back Sony's last gen console.
An attempt to win Sony's customer base to come to XBone, at least in small numbers.
I don't think this tactic will have any success,
it makes MS look desperate and XBone appear like it can't compete on a level playing field,
but this just isn't "taking a cheap shot" at Sony.

Because as a consumer it gives you choices.

Re-read the bolded and then read your response again. Huge conglomerates dominating a market yields a very specific and observable lack of choice for the consumer, this is more or less markets and trade 101.

The provider(s) of goods and/or services decide(s) your choices, fewer acting competitors in any given market = less choice for the consumer. You're going to have to expand on your reasoning here because I really can't follow your logic here at all.

I should have been more specific. I was referring to ms offering rebates to ps3  owners. Nothing wrong with it. No different than trading your cell phone in for a different make or model. Competitor trade ins aren't something new.It gives you more choices as a consumer.
