PC and one4U are two really different markets

It's easy as hell to exchange/move your games from one computer to a new one

But for one4U... really...(well wii->wii-U works) this gen? not so much

maybe in 1 or 2 gen we might go full digital

and quite frankly... I don't wanna go full digital... I like owning the physical thing, and it will never(ok maybe nor forever) stop me from playing the games when and how I play those games... unlike digital were the publisher can suddenly just stop supporting it and I don't have any say in it whatsoever

I think it's a perfectly good idea. All this does is give people more choices. Plan on going fully didital? Cool, here's a $100 off. Want to be able to use disk? That's fine too, you're just gona have to pay a little more.

No doubt we will see Sony release a disk-less PS4 in the near future, and i wouldn't be overly surprised if Nintendo followed too.

Look at my post above, its rumored to release in October which its absolutely possible the current sku gets a price cut to $399 by then.

Bluray player and 500GB HDD each cost about $50 retail so these 2 skus have the same value, just depends on if u prefer physical or digital.

And where does that $100 price drop come from? You think they can drop the production cost of the console by over 20% in less than a year?

Did they production cost of Gamecube go down by 25% in the first 6 months? Did the production cost of Xbox go down by 33% in the first 6 months? Did the production cost of PS3 go down by 20% in the first 10 months? Rid the production cost of 3DS go down by 33% in the first 6 months?

Im guessing the answer to all those questions is no but that didnt stop them from cutting the price by those margins. If PS4 continues to gain marketshare in America/UK, u know the places that Xbox won last gen, then Microsoft will feel the need to reduce the price in order to stay competitive.

Most people probably dont feel Kinect is worthy of an extra $100 but if u get Xbox+Kinect for the same price as PS4 it will appear as tho its a better value. Yes they will lose money initially but Microsoft can afford it and with more sales will come more Xbox Live subscriptions, more software sales and more accessory sales which could potentially offset the losses.

I kow it's possible but MS made the desicion to sell the Xbox One at a profit when it launched. It would be a very drastic change to go from that to losing what could end up being $70 per console. I think there could be a lot of internal debate over whether to drop the price to $450 or $399. I say that because they'll have to make the calculation to determine if they think that the extra $50 per console will give them enough extra marketshare to be worth it.

All of this while hoping to god Sony doesn't decide to drop the price of the PS4.

Let them release a disc drive less Xbone.

Discless consoles are a really bad idea, I fully agree with Pachter on this one. It won't only alienate consumers, but more importantly the retailers who has to sell it and afterwards not earn a dime from selling software which is more about profits than a console.
