Oh... The correct translation is: Tageting children isn't enough.
Well, no shit, Sherlock (Nintendo). About time you realize this.
Instead of locking the thread, i've simply modified it a little.
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The problem is kids and adults still don't know what the wii u is. They screwed up there with the wiiu and will never get any audience because of the name. The ad is the proof of that. If the wiiu was called wii 2 it would have sold a lot better with the launch of mario kart at 250. Only chance now is if they rebrand the wiiu to wii 2 or kill it. The wii was simple to understand and market. Perfect for the family. The wiiu isn't that. It has confusing controller and name. Onto your argument about teenagers. That is irrelevant because the wii proved that the market is strong in other areas. You say teenagers and I say what about the low sales of casual games on ps3? You say what about the 18-32. I say about the 50-72 that bought the wii? The imaging problem is only problem if your marketing at the wrong audience. You are proving my point. If you have image you can either use it to your advantage or disadvantage. A successful business man says the glass is half-full instead of half-empty. Trying to get the other audience is by your own admitted words counterproductive. Saying people are now on to tablets and smartphone isn't an argument. Casual games on the wii are still outselling the Xbox or ps3 versions by far. Look at just dance and Disney games. The 3ds which is at 42 million proves you wrong. Nintendo problem was they made an anti-casual console to point were it is simply unattractive to casuals. |
The problem here is that Nintendo isn't marketing to 18-32 or 50-72 or any market besides little kids. Nintendo is saying they should be targeting children MORE, when in reality they've been marketing to children far too much. The only casual franchise on the Wii that's still selling well is Just Dance. That's another problem with marketing exclusively to kids, they don't desire console upgrades the same way teenagers and adults do. Why would a parent buy their kid a $300 console just to play a game they can already play on their Wii. And I don't see how 3DS numbers prove me wrong, they're far below what the DS was doing at the same point in time. 3DS has been disappointing in EU and NA while doing extremely well in Japan.
But apparantly this whole thing was a mistranslation and Nintendo actually agrees with me here. They should start targeting other markets.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

exactly, I mean the 18-32 year manchild market has shown it's waaay too small, after all Nintendo specifically targeted them with NSMBU, SML3D, Pikmin 3, Nintendoland, Zelda WW HD and The Wonderful 101 - they should finally target kids and families, like Call of Duty has shown time and time again
and I was obviously kidding |
When you say pikmin 3 and wonderful 101 I think you don't understand the difference between a casual/kid game and kiddy looking game. Wonderful 101 is not a casual game. Complex nature of the game is not suited towards casuals or kids.

I hope the new translation is more accurate because it certainly makes more sense.
Right now, the Wii U does not offer enough diversity. The aesthetics are very one-sided. More of the same will only attract--that's right--the same people who already own a Wii U. Bayonetta 2 and X are coming, sure, but they might be too little, too late.
I wouldn't say that Nintendo has been too focused on children but rather that the Wii U's offerings have been too one-dimensional.
seriously...Nintendo released ONLY casual games in 2013. Do you REALLY think, that Iwata said that they haven´t targeting children enough ?
Let's hope Nintendo decides to focus their attention on adult gamers as well. The biggest reason why i haven't been interested in anything Nintendo offers since the GameCube time is because i find their games too child oriented.
Introducing for Wii U ...
Zelda: A Link In Diapers
Every character is a cute baby!
I guess there weren't any teens or adults on Nintendo's commercial... Right?
I looked at all commercials that Nintendo made and it is not targeting kids... if it was a kid then there would not be only teens and adults in primary commercials from Nintendo except a few. You people fail to confirm the factual. Confirmation bias you suffer from? Probably...
