Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Investors Meeting - 8:00 PM EST (15 mins left)

On the response of software makers, Mr. Iwata says there is still strong support from makers of content that is popular with Nintendo’s main customer base of children and families, but enthusiasm is lower among other software makers. For now, Nintendo will focus on increasing its user platform so that more software makers can come on board, Mr. Iwata says.

This image confirms that a new home console and handheld are in the works.

The image is showing that Nintendo Network ID is coming to the 3DS and that your user will own the software and not the hardware.

Uh? Did you even look at the image? Beside the 3ds image, you can see "Future handheld" and beside the wiiU image you can see "Future home console".

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

Iwata= next time propose hardware will utilise what done on WiiU, cannot have console and portable separate systems, they are brother/sister

BOOM

Nomura analyst now asking why Nintendo revamped its organizational structure to merge consoles and portable devices. Mr. Iwata says there was a huge technological gap in developing consoles and portable games in the past since portable devices run on batteries, but technological advances have narrowed the architectural difference between the two. He adds he doesn’t know yet whether the two hardware will be merged in the future, but the two will become more like “brothers.”

Iwata=cannot have 2 to 3 different architectures, Apple has one iOS platform as does android, Nintendo has to do the same

I have to disagree that the main problem for the Wii U is the gamepad. The main problem is that the casuals that they appealed to with the Wii, and were trying to appeal to with the Wii U, are mostly gone. The majority of gamers left are hardcore. And since they already have a PS3 and/or 360, this gen they are looking for an actual leap forward in terms of power. Not a console that is around the same as their old console.

The only thing I can think that would really boost the Wii U is to drop the price by A LOT. Like to $200. I think this would make it cheap enough for some to purchase it as a secondary console, as it does have some appealing exclusives. Of course, this isn't going to make sales explode by any means, because of the reason above. And it appears it is off the table as far as Iwata goes.

There still there if you look at the wii casual sales. There just not given a reason to upgrade by nintendo. The whole myth that casuals moved on is based on nothing but nintendo poor choices.

Why?  Because Just Dance sells decently on it?  You do realize the sales have been dropping quite a bit since Just dance 3?  The first 10 weeks of Just Dance 3 had a total of 4.1M.  First 10 weeks of Just Dance 4, 3.1M.  First 10 weeks of Just Dance '14, 1.3M.  If anything, that supports my point.  The majority of casuals, not all, have been leaving these past few years.  They moved on to tablets and phones.  Or maybe just got out completely.  They're definitely not in the shadows waiting for Nintendo to give them that one big reason to buy the Wii U.

On licensing model says won't do Sanrio model but prefer not to follow other's model, wallpaper on smart phones could happen

Mr. Iwata says he won’t deny the possibility of carrying out M&As by using the shares the company will buy back, saying its business is facing a transition point. But he says there’s no specific deal that is moving forward that he can talk about for today.
