I'm not playing damage control, I'm simply giving you the facts.

Sony and MS have both bought IPs, studios, and put money into the development of new IPs. MS has been responsible for many new IPs over the years. Some were hits, many were not. Same story for Sony.

For the record, even with Gears excluded... MS may have sold more software than Sony in the 7th gen. So MS would be stable even without Gears, it just makes them stronger. Gears would also make Sony stronger, they just couldn't afford the IP.

Nintendo started decades ago and Sony in the 90's. There is literally no other way for someone to start a new game console this day and age and actually compete with Sony nd Nintendo without spending money

Buying studio that makes new games, loses independence to make games for other platforms = good.
Buying exclusive rights to new game made by studio, but studio can still have independence=bad.

VGChartz logic????

This is the reason I dont like them.
Rather than creating their own stuff, they go around preventing the creations of other companies from appearing on other platforms.
They are a liability to the industry.

You probably didn't mind it too much when Sony bought Naughty Dog, though. AMIRITE? LMFAO

Is there really a difference between buying a game and owning a studio?

Yep. When you own a studio more of your creative resources as well as money get put into it. Take Uncharted for instance, it wouldn't have been the way it was hadn't Sony directed Naughty Dog to change the genre and focus on what is big right now. Problem with Microsoft is that they are not that creative of a company internally like Nintendo and Sony, so they get a lot of shit for buying companies. This was a smart decision though.

Naughty Dog always focused on whats big right now, so I doubt Sony intervened. Also it has be stated on many occasion that Sony are hands off with ND.

Some of you guys are too young LOL. Sony also bought out plenty of companies. Psygnosis (later on Studio Liverpool), Naughty Dog, Evolution Studios, Sucker Punch etc.

Also who can forgot the timed exclusives and third party exclusives during the PS1 and PS2 era?

Sony's major IP creation period was the same gen that Microsoft started. They have zero excuses. They just aren't good at making games internally. Microsoft is not a creative company when it comes to games, they have always been good at  publishing titles, especially from the PC era.

Their IPs are their own. They arent just buying up IP's like Microsoft.

Like I said, MS will invest money for studios creating IPs even if they don't own it. Sony on the other hand tends not to get involved with studios unless they own the IP and may eventually buy the studio.

Either way, BOTH COMPANIES have thrown money around to buy IPs and studios. Sony would probably buy more IPs if they actually had money. Instead Sony has been buys trying to save money.

Ultimately, Gears of War is a great purchase for MS. If Sony bought Gears... lets just say Sony fans would have been very happy.

Seriously WTF?!

MS buys one of the biggest IPs of last gen and crushes Sonys last hope to get it on their console... And you say the Xbox supporter is playing damage control, because you come up with some weird logic that does not even make sense.

Arguing with you, FlamingWeazel or ethomaz can be sooooo exhausting, because it will never end anyway.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Dude...You obviously haven't been reading most of my posts. MS should've bought Gears long ago and I was saying the same thing for Mass Effect (before EA bought Bioware), because their first party just wasn't cutting it. Its kind of how MS survives. They buy up the real estate. Their best games were from IP's or studios they bought while mid-creation of those games. Titanfall being exclusive? Same crap. They scout these games like a hawk. If I wasn't good at developing i'd do the next best thing too, plus they've got the money. This is the main reason I am buying an Xbox One. MS knows how to get around it and make their console have games in the beginning when they need the buzz most. They work off of perception.

Dude, who says those IPs were up for sale at the time.  Also since MS did not have a studio to take over those IPs how do you expect them to do anything with those studios once they got the IP.  Its not like Epic and Bioware were up for sale to purchase them along with their IPs.  As for Titanfall is concerned, Respawn stated they went to Sony and MS not the other way around.  Last but know least, MS is made up of people.  New management means new direction.  It appears that Phill is really focused on building MS first party efforts which is why we see more effort in that direction.
