the thing to take away from this is that there are both positive and negative aspects to be the shopper instead of the creator.
the positive is that you have a better ability to sort away all the mediocre content from your portfolio and just focus on stuff that you can personally see the quality of before you buy it.
this however also means that it will be more expensive to procure since you not only have to pay for the development costs, but also have to give some sort of financialcompensation for the third party to cut their sales in half (in the ps4 and xbox one's case it is maybe as high as 75 percent sales being cut... this means you wont make any money on the software and so the only gain is from an improved install base. this of course is an investment for future software purchases and it worked in the last generation. this time however, all evidence points to the ps4 having superior multiplatform sales. since none of the companies make any money on hardware yet again, the only source of profit will be for the software (and accessory sales) if Microsoft loses even 10 percent of their previous marketshare to sony this gen it could mean the difference between profitability and loss during the next 7 years...
not only that but the xbox360 has had a way steeper decline than the ps3 had so they will also be more fragile the next few years than sony since the PS3 can still somewhat keep sony afloat no matter the ps4 outcome.
