Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft acquired Gears of War rights. Black Tusk to develop the games

Thank fucking god, I wouldn't want to see Sony waste any effort on it - third party moneyhat or first party.

Thank you, MS.

edit: came off a bit extreme, but had the Sony+Gears of War rumor in the back of my mind. I guess I am happy MS killed that rumor forever and ever.

Yah because more games on the Playstation platforms would be bad for Playstations fans, right? :) Not sure why you would thank Microsoft for voiding the possibility of an exclusive (and a good one) coming out on Playstation too, I hope you know how ridiculous it is...

There are a LOT of Gears of Wars fans out there and having this game on your favorite platform could ONLY help; nothing else...

OP: I'm not a big fan of this franchise (3rd person shooters in general)... But knowing how many people like this game (and the universe) it is a great news for Microsoft.

Thing is... the reason for such a "happy" post is that I don't consider it anything close to good and I am happy it's not gonna be on my platform of choice, distracting from smaller games like the more popular things did to games like Puppeteer.

If it was in my power to get Sony rid of some of their own (IMO trash-worthy) exclusive series like God of War to replace them with something else so company resources and gamer money don't get spread too thin, I'd do it.

No offence to anyone, I'm just happy to not ever hear Sony fanboys troll about Gears of War changing sides to Sony. It's a Xbox franchise, and so it should entirely remain. Microsoft has been on the rise with good moves lately.

OMG! They just solidified my Xbox One purchase before the PS4. Hell Yes! My favorite franchise on the Xbox!

Anyone here read the Gears of War novels? This is really exciting. There is some fantastic backstory they can delve right into, and all sorts of unexplained origin stories.

There is also likely to be any one of half a dozen new canon directions for the story after Gears 3. Really exciting development!

I have xD

Though I think they can continue on from gears 3.  Their is still questions about Adam Fenix and the Queen.

Some of them were very good!

I think exploring Adam Fenix would be a great idea.  Having said that there is an awful lot of depth to Marcus that isn't fleshed out in the games - exploring where he goes after the war (emotionally as much as anything else) could be excellent.

You have misunderstood that announcement.

Whilst there is no definitive evidence that they currently have a second major AAA game in development alongside Gears of War, the link you refer too doesn't in any way preclude it.

They were just pointing out that E3 was a tech demo, in a similar way to the Heavy Rain tech demo that bore no resemblance or relevance to the final game.

Well...

HannoLemke: Tremendous honor to be part of @BlackTuskStudio and @Xbox developing Gears of War. Super excited to welcome @GearsViking to the team!

Steverulez: @hannolemke Can you confirm the status of the new IP you were making? Is it dead or are you a multi project studio?

HannoLemke: @Steverulez today we're focused on the exciting news about Gears, you'll have to stay tuned for more details on what we're working on...

I guess they will work on Gears first... new IP after.

Remember those threads with Sony fans getting hyped over what seemed to them 100% chance that the next gears of war will be on ps4? I gotta find those and get a good laugh XD
What's even funnier is that most of these guys will probably revert to "meh, GoW isn't that good" mode.

It's sour grapes.  Human nature.

you do know what you do with sour grapes right?

enlighten me

It is very possible that theyre a two team dev.  All information about the studio points at this so far.

Seriously, I get what you're saying.  But nothing in those tweets, the media announcement today, or their published information says that they don't have another IP going.  Maybe they don't, maybe they do.

Indeed, 'more details on what we're working on' is as or more likely to allude to another game as it is too what specifically they are doing for Gears.

Based on the press, gears of war series sold (or shipped) more than 22 millions. Does it mean VGC undertracked them?

New thread?
