From VG Chartz roughly this is the total of hardware numbers by generation. I'm starting at gen 4 because it gets iffy before that with accurate numbers, its less then 100 million anyway so who cares.

Gen 4: (SNES) 100 million

Gen 5: (PS1) 285 million

Gen 6: (PS2) 385 million

Gen 7: (what the fuck knows) should end around 535 million

Gen 8: What do you think? I'm guessing around 775 million, video games just keep getting bigger and bigger every year, it only makes sense to go up.

I can't see the 8th gen matching the total sales of the 7th. The handheld market has shrunk considerably, and we already have 2 struggling platforms (compared to all 5 pulling of huge numbers last gen). Not to mention i expect this gen to be a fair bit shorter than the last.

I'm going to go with 400 million. 450 million if the WiiU and Vita can get of their asses and sell :P

500 million. Home consoles will grow but handhelds will shrink. We did a bit shy of 300 million home consoles last time so that would be about 250 million PS4s, 50 million Wii Us, 50 million XBONEs, and 50 million Vita.TVs.

Handheld did about 230 million last time so thats 80 million 3DSs and 20 million Vitas.



Most of those numbers look a little ridiculous after jotting them down.

Well, there is also China but I think most will stay PC and Smartphone gamers the next years

Pretty sure console market will still grow, but less than between 6 and 7.

630 millions with 150-200 millions handeld is possible, but implyes vita grows.
