More PS3 games will become available via download or in HD releases on PS4 as this generation The PS4 will be the most powerful console system in terms of its processing speed, memory and graphical power as well as being the console sales leader for this generation. The PS4 will define the 8th generation and the other two consoles will do well if they can sell a combined tally of 100 million consoles. The PS4 has the potential to reach 200 million and pass the PS2s life time sales total of 160 million. |
The power of a console is just a gimmick. Once the novelty wears off, you will no longer be concerned about its power. You'll be more concerned about its games.
Also, I don't believe the online delivery of games on the PS4 is any different than what both Nintendo and Microsoft offer. If anything, Nintendo's offerings would be more attractive since the eShop has a larger variety of games to download via eShop titles and their Virtual Console. Sony and Microsoft, on the other hand, haven't been out long enough to establish such a library. Also, their game downloads are extremely large - many of them towering over 20 gigs in size. Neither Sony's or Microsoft's systems, as of yet, offer external HDD options. So, the premise of downloading games is more of a hurdle for an average consumer than a benefit. Even though you can swap out the PS4 internal HDD, that option requires a bit of work and technical know-how that many average consumers do not have.
Having the PS4 define the 8th generation will be pretty worrying. Essentially, the PS4 is a step down from the PS3 since it doesn't offer many of the capabilities the PS3 offered. The only thing the PS4 has over the PS3 is more power. If more power is what defines the 8th generation, then the video game industry is in trouble.
