My eyes, please use some paragraphs next time.
they should:
-release generic HW with generic controller thats easy to produce and cheap to manufacture, at the same time make it look cool and advanced technologically, release it at under 200$, release a ton of good cheap games for it since day one, let indies grow, screw established 3rd parties and start working with new young studios, let new players get some field, help publishing good projects that are usually ruined by big publishers...
Just keep doing what they are doing.
Take a risk with new hardware when they decide to change and continue to make great games like always.
So many outsiders think Nintendo is doomed because of no 3rd party. I say the opposite. Nintendo has horrible third party and that has been like that for a long long time, but they still put out insane numbers and make good money. This is what their first loss in how many years. And it wasn't that much of a loss. If the industry has a crash which is predicted about as often as a Nintendo doom thread is posted then Nintendo would be the least affected. They are basically 100% independent of the industry. They are reliant on other companies like PS and Xbox are. We hear it seems monthly of some gaming company being shut down or bankrupt. These are affecting PS and XBOX, not the Nintendo systems, because they weren't getting games from those companies anyway.
It's like there are three Gaming industries. Nintendo, mobile/tablet and PS/Xbox
EA going belly up or Square Enix, ect doesn't affect Nintendo. Angry Birds and so on going belly up doesn't affect Nintendo. Basically the only thing that affects Nintendo is if Consumers stop buying Nintendo games.
Now when i say affect I don't mean Nintendo comes out unscathed in any of these scenerios. Any company that makes even one crap game on Nintendo system leaving hurts them and a crash would hurt them too, but I believe it would affect them the LEAST out of the entirity of the gaming division.
Nintendo is not reliant on these BIG BLOCKBUSTER games. The only real blockbusters that are on the Nintendo system are their own games. The rest either don't come to Nintendo's system and/or sell table scraps compared to other systems. So if a blockbuster system goes down for whatever reason Nintendo will hardly notice compared to how much it would hurt PS/BOx.
Is it effect or affect? Never got those two straight.
Wall of text crited me bad.
To know where Nintendo goes from here, one would have to be able to see the details on their financial report. We dont know for sure what it was that cause the losses (probably inventory) nor we know the breakdowns of their titles in profitability.
I would say that the knee jerk reactions of "going third party!" are very ill informed. What are poor translations are probably skewing meanings from Iwata's words that arent there.
The only thing that will realisticly change is: Nintendo may put their classics on phones. Nintendo will make more relistic predictions of hardware sales (aka not order more than necessary and waste money in inventory).
Adding to this, if i were them, i would consider going "shopping" for more developers to increase the value of their systems and up the sales. Theres only one way to make a sucessful Nintendo console at this point. Its to give it great value in terms of software. If they have great and plenty of exclusives popping out, you bet more people will get it.
If i had to give advice to Nintendo, i would say they should look into buying a big western developer so their standing in the west improves. Maybe Ubi soft would be a good candidate. I predict Ubi is gonna be in trouble soon (i think the crew and Watch dogs are gonna flop), so a buyout would be good. It would bring all of the assassins creed fans aswell and get Nintendo more in touch with the western market needs.
Getting SEGA and/or platinum wouldnt hurt.
Basically... the way forward to Nintendo is to either brace themselves for decline in revenues until next "round", or go all out taking risks to win big.
Some things I would suggest (not necessarily all of them at once but suggestions):
- Accept the Wii U is a dud and try to salvage the situation as much as possible. Drop the tablet, rework the OS to make it more Wiimote friendly, make the WM+ and a Pro Controller shell the defacto controllers. Drop the price to $199.99 US in the spring with NSMBU + Wii Sports Club bundled around the time MK8 launches. Increase the VC dramatically, reposition the Wii U as "Wii 2". Focus on indie game development and offering Nintendo's full back back catalog.
- Push forward on a new Nintendo tablet with a heavily customized version of Android that only accesses the Nintendo eShop (from where you can sell apps and games on your own like Amazon does with Kindle). Allow it to play a selection of Wii U ports (540 resolution), 3DS upports (HD res), Nintendo back catalog games (Wii/VC titles), and some Android games that you deem acceptable (Candy Crush, Angry Birds, etc.). Tablet should have physical controls and be sold at cost. System should be ready to go for mid-2015 giving Nintendo a quick infusion of new revenue.
- Consider an alliance with Sony. Lay down your terms for a very favorable deal. They should assist Nintendo in portables and Nintendo should be the lead in that area, Nintendo also retains the right to make some hardware of their own console wise, a custom version of the PS4 that also plays Wii U/Wii games for example, along with other perks and cash kickbacks from Sony. If they say no, say you are going to talk to Microsoft. My guess is they cave and give you more or less anything you want as long as the deal is profitable for them too (which is would be, better to get on Nintendo's portable gravy train than watch the Vita fizzle into nothing, and Nintendo exclusives would pretty much seal the US market for Sony over MS all other things being equal).
I actually have a fairly out-of-the-box idea for Nintendo in this topic.... buy gamestick. for those of you not aware: http://www.gamestop.com/android/consoles/gamestick-stick-and-controller/109154#productDetails
Where am I going with this? Nintendo has always had (over time) a strong handle on the handheld market, but there home console success fluctuates from generation to generation. What if they were able to take all their resources, and dump them into 1 handheld machine? the catch? they use the gamestick technology to stream the game from the handheld system to the hdmi stick that plugs into the tv. Bam! they've successfully started to compete on both fronts with one system.
Now, the main problem here of course is hardware specs. Just how much power can they cram into a handheld? If they can find a positive answer to that question they could find themselves in a very promising spot... or they could actually doom themselves once and for all. what do YOU guys think?
p.s. i'm not going to lie, I haven't put any research into the validity of this idea. I was just looking at a gamestick one day and the idea occurred to me "if 1 of the big 3 made a handheld that could stream to the tv I would finally feel compelled to by my 1st ever handheld" then thought "if Nintendo did it would they even make a home console?"
For some reason, I think they'll make some sort of partnership with Apple...
I'm sure you made some good points in the OP but I can't read that. Go back and edit it so we can focus on the conversation and not the wall of text.

I scrolled through the text with a quick glance and the only part that stood out to me was...
They need EA...
I highly disagree. Most Nintendo gamers are done with EA and their shit ports. EA dropped shitty ports on the Wii U (except NFS which was a late port anyways) to justify removing support when they didn't sell. EA has been dropping shit on Nintendo consoles for years and I'm glad they finally stopped.
