Forums - Gaming Discussion - Americans Trust Microsoft

I'm pretty sure many Americans are against "big business." And Microsoft is one of them.

Your feelings on Windows 8 is subjective. I know people that have come to prefer it. You're just nitpicking.

Sounds like you're already praising SteamOS... lets hope the driver support is good and many games you enjoy are ported.

If you want MS's Triple A games, go buy a Xbox 360 or X1. Clearly not enough PC gamers are buying their games and many games skip the PC for that reason.

Not many PC games sell well at $50 - $60. Don't just look for the few exceptions.

Its sounds like your biggest gripe is MS doesn't cater to you. That's isn't a good reason to dislike a company. Sega doesn't cater to me anymore, so I just don't care about Sega anymore. There are plenty of other developers making games I enjoy.

A preference for Valve does not mean I dislike Microsoft as a company, and neither does my grievances concerning Xbox and Windows. If I seriously disliked Microsoft, I wouldn't be typing this right now on my Windows 7 laptop. :P I'm not happy with the direction those platforms are heading, but you're right, my judgements are very much based on subjectivity.

I do, however, dislike Apple, desite my respect for Apple's past achievements regardless.

I got the impression you disliked MS and Windows when you said this, "You essentially detail one of the major reasons why I dislike Microsoft and will support SteamOS like no other: MS has a stranglehold on the gaming OS scene." That kinda gives the impression you strongly dislike MS. You should be running Google's OS on that laptop.

I think many Americans hate rich people. But everyone loves the products that come from big businesses!

Only if poor people could bring us awesome products...

Improper wording on my part. I have strong feelings about Windows, Steam, and the PC gaming scene in general, so I'm sorry if I take it out on Microsoft when I'm not exactly thinking. I do, however, dislike the fact that Windows has a stranglehold on the gaming OS scene. Emphasis on gaming. Chrome OS is for web browsing, and Steam doesn't run on it (and yes, I do game primarily on my laptop).

I also will actually not support Steam OS if it turns out to be really shitty. Thankfully it's free, so I don't have to set high standards. I'll set my standards to "better than Windows 8", and if it doesn't meet them, Valve will be hearing my feedback and suggestions as to where everything went horribly wrong.

Despite our domestic rhetoric of buy American and save American jobs. Americans have little product patriotism and will buy on price and quality regardless of the country the company or product is made in. MS just did a great job with the 360 and that affect is still being seen today with the xbox one. Sony can take this market by getting a lead early. People want to play with their friends. That is the driving force of which console people choose after the hardcore all buys theirs on brand loyalty

Exactly.

When I went to England some years back there was a heavy bias to Sony and Nintendo. I went to italy and the bias is heavily in Sony's favor. Times change but I dont think Sony has lost so much of that bias, people are just buying whatever consoles apply to them most.

People in Germany buy Playstation because it's Playstation - as easy as this. Many, many people buy stuff because they know the name, not because they researched before for hours and hours and read reviews which console might suit their taste more.

Its the only console made from an American company so Americans feel a need to support it.

Has there been a occurrence of someone saying that (even online? o.O)?

Buying things simply because of their region seems kinda odd especially in this day and age where almost everything comes from China l0l.

Where something is made is irrelavent tbh, the company behind the X1 is an American company.  There is always that feeling to support something that comes from the place you live, just like supporting your home sports team, even if they trade your favorite player your probably gonna still be cheering for your jersey.

Really why? That is a stupid thing to do if you ask me?

This is kind of similar to how the PS3 did so well at $699. The PS brand was still strong, later in the generation is when things start to change.
