I doubt people trust microsoft after the rumors last year that they were selling our information to the NSA.

No, MS was obligated by law to provide the NSA information.

It has nothing to do with trust. Many people don't trust Microsoft in America but have very little choice choice but to tolerate them (ie: Windows). Tolerate is the key word.

Microsofts success in America is based off of three things:

1) America pays attention to he who yells loudest. Sony cannot outspend Microsoft at marketing campaigns in the US. They are the official brand of the NFL in the US, which means the dude bros by association will look at the XBox One first just by casual male target commercialism.

2) Microsoft  is equal to Sony outside of Japan when it comes to third party. The majority of gamers who buy consoles in America buy third party rather than first party. Microsoft has a more calculated relationship with third parties which gives them the edge on marketing perception. They fight in a "battle of inches" type of way. They will use timed exclusivity and DLC to sway you to buying third party games on their console over another.

3) A good percentage of Americans psychologically believe that paying more for a consoles equates to quality. Even though you'll also find that they pay for whats cheaper, many will applaud themselves for buying the more expensive version of whatever product exists.

As an American, I take offense to that assertion.

Same here. I prefer Valve as an American game platform provider.

Windows is not a Valve platform.

Anyhow, MS and Valve kinda aim for different markets. Nintendo and Sony are both Japanese but find success in different markets.

You're right. Good thing SteamOS is going to be a thing, because I'm officially sick of Windows. And I'm certainly not in Microsoft's target market. I never was, and never will be until Microsoft finally delivers on Crackdown's potential. :P

We'll have to see how much support SteamOS gets but you'll likely be using Windows for years. I think there is a good chance MS will throw money around just to keep games on Windows.

I think anyone that has a reason to use Windows is MS's target audience.

You essentially detail one of the major reasons why I dislike Microsoft and will support SteamOS like no other: MS has a stranglehold on the gaming OS scene.

Perhaps I'd be a happier customer if Microsoft developed more PC games, but apparently Xbox and Windows Phones are more important.

I'm fine with MS's stranglehold on PC gaming because its open. You can buy any hardware you want and developers don't need approval from MS. Most PC gamers don't even buy their games or the OS. Its the wild west of gaming!

Fuck yeah Xbox is more important. PC gamers aren't buying $60 games in droves.

MS occassionally puts some decent games on PC. Go play State of Decay, Mark of the Ninja, Toy Soldiers, or maybe Halo Spartan Assault!

It is, but it also has its fair share of problems. And by that, I mean Windows 8 sucks. Given a choice, I would rather game on SteamOS, which is free to download and free for hardware manufacturers to license. Not given a choice, I would continue to game on Windows (yes I know that Mac OS exists, but I dislike it and Apple even more). How much support it gets from developers is irrelevant to me, because I will end up supporting it as much as possible for as long as it exists.

Oh, and color me unimpressed by the XBLA brigade. Bring back Age of Empires (no, not Age of Empires Online) and maybe we're getting somewhere. There are, after all, big franchises and genres that PC gamers will shell out $60 for, and not even for a physical copy. But even then, we're talking about the possibility of Windows 8 exclusive titles, like what Project Spark is supposed to be, so it's quite possible that I can't be pleased at all.

Your feelings on Windows 8 is subjective. I know people that have come to prefer it. You're just nitpicking.

Sounds like you're already praising SteamOS... lets hope the driver support is good and many games you enjoy are ported.

If you want MS's Triple A games, go buy a Xbox 360 or X1. Clearly not enough PC gamers are buying their games and many games skip the PC for that reason.

Not many PC games sell well at $50 - $60. Don't just look for the few exceptions.

Its sounds like your biggest gripe is MS doesn't cater to you. That's isn't a good reason to dislike a company. Sega doesn't cater to me anymore, so I just don't care about Sega anymore. There are plenty of other developers making games I enjoy.

Its the only console made from an American company so Americans feel a need to support it.

Has there been a occurrence of someone saying that (even online? o.O)?

Buying things simply because of their region seems kinda odd especially in this day and age where almost everything comes from China l0l.

Where something is made is irrelavent tbh, the company behind the X1 is an American company.  There is always that feeling to support something that comes from the place you live, just like supporting your home sports team, even if they trade your favorite player your probably gonna still be cheering for your jersey.

Not really no.  America is about dead last when it comes to country brand loyalty.

Generally Americans think things made in America are built like crap.

It's actually plays the opposite way.

Japan won't buy a non-japanese console.  Japan being one of the strongest country loyalty companies.

As for Europe?   Europe loves racers, and Nintendo's early europe game sucked.  So Sony holds a lot of the nostalgia Nintendo does in Japan and the US.

Also, Fifa has been learned to be played on a Playstation controller.

While the US... Madden was mostly learned on 360 because Microsoft did a great job targeting it as a big focus early on.  Tournaments being with Xbox controllers etc.

A preference for Valve does not mean I dislike Microsoft as a company, and neither does my grievances concerning Xbox and Windows. If I seriously disliked Microsoft, I wouldn't be typing this right now on my Windows 7 laptop. :P I'm not happy with the direction those platforms are heading, but you're right, my judgements are very much based on subjectivity.

I do, however, dislike Apple, desite my respect for Apple's past achievements regardless.
