I always think the Nintendo games look better once they release. It's probably because instead of seeing a trailer on an iPhone, I now play it on a big T.V.
I'm not worried.

My biggest fear about this game is that it focuses too much on the multiplayer mode or that you can access to certain items or weapons only if you play with other people. The visuals aren't really that important for me even if it doesn't look like the trailers it will still surely look really good.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I honestly dont think X looks all that great visually to begin with. Maybe it's just the artstyle, idk. A graphical downgrade wouldn't really bother me as long as the gameplay is as fun as it looks. |
I'm totally with you. I mean the scope looks impressive no doubt, but the overall visuals and animations? Nope, nothing impressive there.
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!

Very few...in fact, Nintendo may be one of the few developers whose games tend to look noticeably BETTER at release than when they are first shown. Part of this may have to do with Nintendo's absolute SUCKAGE when it comes to capturing screenshots and footage of their games (especially 3DS games...the trailers make them all look so grainy and choppy and janky...and then they release and they look fantastic).
I agree with some of the people who are saying that X really isn't that technically "amazing" graphically. It looks really nice...the draw distance is breathtaking, but, like Xenoblade, I think Monolith Soft focuses more on capturing the sense of their art direction, and creating textures that look fantastic from a distance and still "passable" when up close. Xenoblade isn't technically amazing, but it's beautiful because the art direction is top notch, the draw distance is incredible for a Wii game, and there are little details that just make the world come alive.
So, I'm not really worried about X taking a step backwards graphically. I think it's pretty set, and if anything they'll do some polishing and maybe improve the smoothness of texture changes when you get closer or farther away from things.

How many examples are there of Nintendo games that ended up pushing the hardware to its limits even remotely? Also, hasn't there been a Zelda game that looked no where near as good as its prerelease visuals? |
Yep, it is called Twilight princess.
Don't worry if X doesn't look as good as the Nintendo fans claim it to be at release, graphics will not matter anymore and it will be all about gameplay

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
| spemanig said: No offense, but this is Nintendo we're talking about. They aren't like other companies. If they have an ugly game, they will gladly and gleefully show you that ugly game because you'll end up loving it anyway. This is the company that actually still proudly shows gameplay in their reveal trailers. Nintendo is shit at business, not at making games. What you see has always been what you get. |
The 2004 and the 2005 gdc trailer of twilight princess showed far superior visuals than the final product
Alot of companies now pump up their games in trailers based on PC builds that are stronger then the console its releasing on to get people all hyped up and then once they get the console version they realize they were sold a lie. Nintendo ussually does the opposite lately which is make their game look like garbage (SM3DW) and then later on when it comes out and everyone plays all of the levels they realize it looks amazing. Who is running marketing at Nintendo anyways, almost everything they do makes them look bad.

It's fairly common in the gaming business that first, second, and third party developers show off a game that really pushes the console, and then when it's finally released, it's nowhere near as good looking as we were shown. |
This doesn't happen with Nintendo; their games pretty much always look better than pre-release footage, because they finish the mechanics first, then add the graphical polish last.

BULL! I still have the E3 DVD where they announced Twilight Princess and the game looks the same if not better. Unfortunately, games from that era have aged poorly but Twilight Princess was quite a looker back in 2006.
