It's easy click bait for sites like IGN.

With sports it is as much the community as the club itself. When I hang out or travel with fellow supporters real sense of camaradarie.  It has a culture and a history and memories of the highs and lows.  You're talking many people spend in excess of $1000 a year and countless hours working on tifos to support their club.

With gaming it may be a passion as well, but there is not that tribalism to it.  People are loosely connected by purchasing the same product. It is a much more business like arrangement. Give me the type of system with type of games I want and you have my business, cease to do so and patronage ends.

Even during low years I would not abandon my club so I find your analogy wanting from my personal experience.

There is nothing wrong with having preferences and being a fan of something whether it's consoles, sports, comics, restaurants, cars, actors, etc... But console wars are for the fragile insecure who have their priorities out of line by placing some unfounded and unjustified high "moral" stance on an inanimate object of silicon and circuitry that's shoved in a cheap polymer formed encasing. And when they think they are on some high "moral" ground because of the console they support, all they are doing is falsely building up their fragile ego. And then, they try to bring anyone else down to their level when the console NOT of their choice is receives in a positive light. Video games is my primary distraction when I find the time for it. But I ultimately find joy in anyone who enjoys games regardless of platform and genre.

OP obviously isn't a fan of sports so this thread is invalid. Console wars are stupid.

It also generates cheap, organic hype, and fosters an environment that keeps people interested enough to stick around all year long for news.

Like it or hate it, it's great for everyone in the industry overall and longterm.

Console wars is like a rotten apple that spoils the basket of fresh ones called gaming industry.

Hoping your sports team wins is also stupid. Because most people are fan for no reason.

Let me give you an example okay?

Lets say you are fan of soccer club  XY.  You either are soccer club because
A) your parents (most likely father) influenced you. So you only THINK they like the team and because people hate change they keep being a FAN because they are used to being a fan.
B) your friends influenced you (look at XY its cool. Please have a weak personality and just do what others around you do otherwhise you will not be part of our GROUP k? thanks)
C) the team always wins and you have a superiority complex and like to win constantly (alot of people keep being a fan because. They cant accept that they were wrong so MY TEAM HAS TO BE GOOD AGAIN I WILL PROVE IT TO YOU!!!! And because they dont like change)
D) you like a specific player and thats why you THINK you like the team
E) They are from the same city as you (BUT! This wont be the case since there is several teams from e.g BERLIN and most people just like Hertha because thats the best team in BERLIN so it basically is C) all over again. You chose the best team in your town=you want to feel superior)
F) you were playing for the same team when you were younger/or a family member did that (THIS IS THE ONLY REASON THAT MAKES SENSE but ONLY as long as you just played for a single team. If you played for several teams you will most likely chose the best team AGAIN so its C) again)

So even being a sports fanatic is stupid. its even more stupid than being a console fanboy because a team will most likely completely change within just a few years.

By "war", I'm going to assume you mean a situation where two parties each wish for the failure of the other.

The nature of gaming and sports are vastly different. Sports are inherently "wars" since the success of one team depends upon the failure of another team. Therefore, its necessary for one to wish failure for their favorite team's opponent. Gaming is the complete opposite. As a gamer, you can enjoy your favorite game and hope for its success without wishing for the failure of its competitors. Two competing games/consoles can easily be successful. There's no need for wars, so yes, they are stupid.

Yes. Saying you're going to skull fuck somebody's dead mother because they support a different football team is just as stupid as saying that because they like a different console manufacturing corporation.
