Yes I think the term "fanboy" needs to go away. They are not worse than hardcore fans of other hobbies. Hell even the football hooligans are still being called fans.
It is also correct that gamers are more invested in their fandom and their involvement directly effects the quality of their hobby. Most sports fans like their team because it is from their town but we would shun everyone who would argue that Xbox is best just because it is made in the same country you are living.

And also I've seen less violence over video game disputes than any sport or politics discussion.

When you put it that way, it does make sense. A roommate of mine is a diehard 49ers fan while I supported the Ravens for last years superbowl mostly because I thought Joe Flacco deserved a ring, considering the fact that he dispatched the Broncos and Pats. We almost fell out just because of that lol. Being a "fan" of anything can be typically associated with a lack of logic so I'm not really a fan of anything.

Console wars are cool, when It's just normal debating about consoles. It's stupid when people troll a fanbase to get them mad and stuff like that.
