Except when one of those companies does something explicitly with the intention of hurting the other manufacturer's console. I forget, was it Sony or MS that said "our goal is to kill Playstation"? It might have been either, both took a decent stab last gen.

Though if it was Nintendo who said this, then my argument would still be valid...my post was refering to games, not toys.

I like a good ole fashioned console war. It makes me feel nostalgic. Best console war ever SNES v. Genesis. We used to have fights at recess back then.

I enjoy not being blind to a selection of perfectly good options to choose from.

I not a fan of any sports teams. I figure with any game, there is always going to be one winner and one loser. And it doesn't really interest me. I really don't get how someone becomes a fan when they move to a new city.   Or why they would care.  I get it's a substatute for war without killing, but still just as silly.

As far as politics. That's a little different, that's more like life and death, and lifestyle/freedom, etc. There are good reasons to care about those. 

I don't mind someone being a fan of their console, but when they have to put down others and troll, then that's just annoying. And says to me, they don't really have much else to do. Which is just kida sad.

Tell me what you like and I will listen!  I love people that can praise something.  Tell me why something or some game is so great.  But put something else down to do it, and it means little.

I think the console wars are stupid. I know what I like and prefer,but I'm not going to throw it in everybody's face.

Well at least we slag each other off on the internet, unlike, say football hooliganism where there's all sorts of violence in the stadiums and sometimes rioting and looting in the streets.

In defence of being a sports fan, at least most of the time the teams you're supporting are representing your city/country. So there is a sort of patriotic element to it. Though patriotism, when carried to extreme is pretty bad.

Funny then that people gripe about Japanese buying Nintendo/Sony and dissing MS, if we continue the sports comparison a Japanese person (who lives in Japan of course) being a Xbox fan would be like a Brazilian football nut being a fan of the English football team. Similarly for the Sony and Nintendo fans in the USA. But this is where the parallell falls over really, because corporations don't represent anything other than themselves, and the only objective reason to root for them is if you own shares.
