If he did proper job of managing the company, I'd be pleased. I don't want some prick who'll give in to the "put your content on smartphones" morons.

Please Understand? I don't think "firing Iwata" will solve anything really, what they really need is a realization to...well...reality. Iwata literally needs to please understand his situation and how his current order is creating these losses and missed forecasts. He may have caused the company's only operating losses since entering the console market, but he was also the man who created the most successful environment for Nintendo ever (Wii and DS). I don't think he'll be going down anytime soon, as much as some people want him to. |
It's probably not just Iwata, Miyamoto and some of the other older senior members at Nintendo are probably pulling the strings in a collective, ignorant group think.
It's mind blowing for example that Nintendo wants to be in the home console business, yet today (since it's not 1995 anymore), 90% of the console business is now in North America and Europe, yet Nintendo has reduced their Western development to basically having three Western collaborators (Next Level, Retro, and Monster Games) ... and even those three are kept on a tight leash and only get to work on old Japanese based character properties (yeah dat Retro new epic franchise ... I love DKC, but what a joke all that anticipation was).
They have virtually no indepedant Western developer support yet they think they can sell home consoles here based on controller gimmicks. Rude awakening time -- that trick worked once, it wasn't going to work twice. People are not stupid, they can see you're trying to sell a redressed XBox 360 type machine with a bloated controller for $350 for the same old 4-5 "major" franchises with no exciting third party support behind them.

I agree with you with migrating to smartphones, 3DS is still selling pretty well and Nintendo get's $40/$50 for their games, you can't get that kind of prices on smartphones.
Releasing their games on other consoles however is probably going through some stockholders minds right about now. Nintendo needs a good install base to sell their games, and Wii-U is not going to suffice. They are missing out millions of software sales right now because the install base is to small.

Yeah your right they are low balling their projection a little bit. Most people think it should be around 6-6.5 million wii U's sold by then.

how much money does Nintendo have in reserves? Kinda worried about them now
They need to ride out the Wii U, until there next gen console. Short time - they need to stop the bleeding as tampons are not going to work. They have to stop fund crappy titles like Game&Wario and other tired casual titles and work on games that make the gamepad appealing.

They're going to need a MK8 sized title like for every month starting like yesterday at this rate.
Honestly if they couldn't come close to sniffing a profit this year with Pokemon X/Y, Animal Crossing (Western release), Super Mario 3D World, Zelda: LBW, Monster Hunter 4, 2DS release, Pikmin 3, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Wii Sports Club ... they probably are going to lose money again next year too.
3DS looks like it's already peaked sales wise and Wii U is a disaster that's going to require another $50 price drop at least ... which will probably mean they have to incur more losses.

MK8 would be lucky to break 5 million at this rate.

I think MK8 will do fine though its sales will be much closer to Mario Kart on GameCube than the Wii one, but I think Smash Bros. is going to stun some people with it's relative non-impact. I just don't sense the same frenzied hype around this one as the build up to the Wii one (remember when people went nuts over the Solid Snake trailer?), it just seems like "oh ... another Smash Brothers game". It doesn't even look that great graphically to be honest, and I think it being on 3DS also is going to dilute its impact (just NSMBU/NSMB2 did).

I agree, especially with the Smash part. There just isn't much insentive to buy a Wii-U for these games, they are not story driven games and you might aswell play these games on the Wii. I know several people who like to play ''Mario Kart'', but they really don't care that it's on the Wii or Wii-U. In fact, you could even play the Wii versions of these games on a Wii-U.
And Gamecube sales levels of Mario Kart will be a massive dissapointment to many people here.
