Forums - Gaming - Who will be the big losers this gen?

Depends on how you define what it means to 'lose'.

If you mean in terms of absolute sales of devices, then probably Wii U and Vita.
If you mean in terms of game division profitability, it's really too early to say but Microsoft could possibly have the worst performance.
If you mean in terms of overall company profitability, then Sony will probably have the worst performance.

Also, all microconsoles will end up flopping and only lower tier Steam Machines will find a niche market. The middle developers will keep dropping out as everything keeps going towards the extremes of either AAA or indie.

I'm afraid Capcom might be next. I think their current situation is similar to Square-Enix's shortly before the release of A Realm Reborn.

As for losers... They could all be considered losers depending on the circumstances.
If we're talking units sold and market share: Nintendo
If we're talking profits in gaming division: Microsoft
If we're talking from a company standpoint: Sony

I'd have to say it's an interesting predicament. From a company standpoint... Sony isn't in good financial shape as a company. However PS4 looks to be a very positive item for Sony. They will likely sell the most home consoles, and should produce profit in their games division.

Microsoft likes to throw money everywhere to try to gain exclusives and extra content, but I'm not really sure that's paying off. They're a very healthy company otherwise, so I guess they can afford burning money on their gaming aspirations. They'll sell more units than Nintendo, but less than Sony... they lose overall, because they'll likely have the lowest profit, if any.

Until Nintendo proves otherwise... I'd have to say they're always in a winning position with profits. From a units sold prospective though, they'll be viewed as the big losers in the console market with the Wii U. However, Nintendo is the most profitable of the three, and have been for years despite market share at times. This can be attributed to their success on handhelds and the Wii.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

Microsoft in my opinion because they thought they owned the whole gaming community but as soon as gamers far and wide expressed there anger they soon did a U-Turn which in my eyes makes them the biggest loser already, atleast stick to your ideas and not go back on it, thats just not right maaaaaaaaan

Consumers will lose. The utterly lame business practices of today will blossom into something truly ugly, and I will probably forsake a large portion of the gaming landscape because of it.
