Because the industry is not as healthy as advertised outside of the top few franchises.

If they refuse to breakdown game grosses, it's because most of them didn't profit
If Sony refuses a country breakdown, it's because it would show weaknesses

That's very true. The few times we hear publishers mention exact sales and how much revenue they made is when said games become insane successes, like GTA V, CoDs, etc.

Because no one cares about video games.

Yea... except those millions upon millions of fans who do but fuck them right? -.-

With a population of aprox. 7 billion people, the ones who like to play games as a main hobby is actually very small. People can live their life with no video games without problems, most of them however can't without TV, movies, music, sports or other sources of entertainment.

Unless you take Candy Crush out of mothers and grandmothers life. That will cause some riots.

This sounds similar to the argument that since Sony hadn't announced 3m PS4 sales they couldn't have gotten past it.  All you can state is that companies will always report whatever shows them in the best light.  Just because they don't report the game gross doesn't necessarily mean they didn't profit, but that they didn't profit enough to make it seem like a worthy press release.  The same goes for regional breakdowns for sales.  They'll focus on solely what makes them look the best, but that doesn't mean that things are on the complete opposite side of the spectrum if they don't report it.

They do this because they can, and nothing requires them to do otherwise and report anything more.  If the movie industry didn't already have the standards set up that it does it would almost assuredly do the exact same thing.

Maybe thats because they've all been around longer than gaming.

And you can't just compare the entire planets population to gaming. Thats a bit ridicolus.
