i know my favorite game of this gen is not very relevant but, screw that.

I vote Valkyria Chronicles

My vote goes to Grand Theft Auto V.

There were a lot of great games this gen, but GTAV is the one game that has captured me the most.

Super Mario Galaxy no doubt about it!

It's hard to compare games from different style. For example, imo Galaxy2 is one of the best platformer of all time while Xenoblade is one of the best JRPG of all time. Which one of the two deserves ''game of the gen'' I can choose cause they are so different.

But for me, pretty much either Galaxy2 or Xenoblade. :P

I love Gears of War 3 with all my soul, and probably the game I've invested more time into.

But that being said, Red Dead Redemption is something especial, wouldn't you agree?

This is extremely tough since it was a long generation and there were so many great games, but I'll go with Mass Effect 2. The story was the most immersive in the entire generation. The dialogue and voice acting were top notch. The characters were amazing and each one their own personality. I'd also say the gameplay was vastly improved from the original Mass Effect... It's certainly didn't have the best gameplay, but I found it fun to mix up classes and abilities.

Wii Sports

So wish Nintendo had fleshed it out more.  Had it a Mario Bowling, Mario Tennis, Mario Baseball, Mario Golf, ect all in one game and it be Mario Sports instead.

Feels kind of pathetic naming a game as simple as Wii Sports as game of generation, but it really was.  It really takes the cake as the whole "best thing since sliced bread" analogy.  Sure there are hundreds of great games I could list that have either amazing graphics, great puzzles, a great story, ect you name it.  But none of them were the "WOW this is amazing" as Wii Sports was.

It had that effect the first time you played Guitar Hero back in the PS2 generation.
