There are millions of people playing games today that wouldn't be without the Wii. It brought in new demographics, changing gaming from a dudebro/nerd/kids activity to a more socially accepted form of entertainment.

nope. tell me what are these these sytem sellin games that are coming out that rely on motion controls, i see nothing huge on ps4/xbone/wiiu where motion controls are the selling point, it's just something nobody cares about anymore, sure its inlcuded but you could easily remove it from gaming and it wouldn't effect sales. |
People confuse the Wii's IR tracking as motion control, and those pointer controls have continued through this current-gen. From WiiU you have the wiimote IR being used in Pikmin3 (wiimoteplus has gyro tracking)... Kinect's hand tracking or PSEye tracking the DS4 lightbar? Xbox one controller has no motion sensors, but the DS4 still has the six-axis and Sony also made their last-gen motion wands be backwards compatible.
Nintendo tried the Gamepad's gyro + second-screen as a selling feature, with Google Street app or ZombiU's room scanning.
In the end, the competition has been influenced by the Wii, Kinect on Microsoft side and six-axis/move on Sony.
its the Wii Cubed, which is also Wii to the second power = Wii2
and that means.... halflife 3.

Is this really wrong though? Motion control, motion tracking, or whatever you want to call it, has been around since as long as a device has been able to take a visual reference and extrapolate movement from a device capable of transmitting useable data. Such devices have been around for at least 50 years, but the tech has never been so important as the experiences it enables. This is why the Wiimote will be remembered, and its contenders less so.

The philosophy behind the Wii U is a mixture between Wii, DS, XBOX and PlayStation. Maybe that's the problem... They tried to appeal to all groups of gamers instead of focussing on specific groups. It doesn't have a clear identity.
Droppping the GamePad would be disastrous. Even most games with Pro-Controller or Wiimote support need a GamePad to start. Third parties probably won't patch most of the already released games.
Nintendo could patch NSMBU to start without the GamePad, but games like Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 or 3D World would have to be reworked.
Games like ZombiU, Lego City Undercover, Nintendo Land, Wii Party U, Game & Wario would be completely incompatible. It's impossible to patch them.
2DS is compatible with all 3DS games. How should they market a cheaper Wii U with a Pro-Controller that can play only around 20% of the Wii U library at it's launch and cuts features of it's games?

Gamecube follow up? the only notable thing it has in common with GC is it's sales.

Pretty awesome that it got past zero, I mean look at the fuckin thing. How do you even explain its appeal to people in a place like this? It was doomed before it was even thought of.

I dunno, I don't even want one. Maybe in 5 years, Nintendo will catch up with Sony and learn to charge people to play games they already own.
